Setop box gets damaged due to faulty installation

I am a Tatasky user since Jan 2007 and I have been facing problem with rain water seeping into the set-top box.  The first time this happened was last year (2007) when due to heavy rain, water entered the wire connected to the dish and entered the set-top box.  The set top box got damaged and had to be replaced.  The same problem occurred again in May 2008.  The first time my set top box was replaced free of charge as it was in warrenty.  Now they are asking me to shell out 600/- for the set top box and 300/- as engineer visit fees.


When the guy came to install the new settop box I asked him why this problem has been happening so frequenty with me.  It was then that he suggested that he will check a rubber knob which is present at the place where the wire is attached with the dish.  When he checked, he found that the rubber knob was fixed upside down and hence water was entering the wire.  The knob is for preventing water from entering the wire and has a larger diameter at one end (which should be below) and smaller diameter at other (which should be towards the top).  As it was fixed upside down water was entering the wire.  I called up the Tata sky helpline and asked them why I should bear the expenses for the new set top box when this problem had occurred due to wrong installation of the dish!!!


I was kept on hold for a long time, and finally made to speak with the senior executive who said that she is sorry, but as the set top box was out of warrenty they cannot reverse the charges!!! I was amazed as to how they can charge me for the box when it got damaged due to wrong instllation by Tata sky folks!   I am thinking of filing a complaint in the consumer forum!
