Tata sky rockss for me! I bought it on 23rd sep. this year on an amount of 4000 including
set top box charge and the installation fees.my tv viewing underwent a huge change since
then, i must say.very few times did I have to check my newspaper for the upcoming tv programs
on all channels. the electronic program guide of tatasky took care of it. I must say that it isnt that
accurate for some regional channels(like for malayalam channels, which I watch often).its often wrong
for the neosports channel also.but considering the huge improvement tata sky has made since its
inception, one would hope that minor flaws such as these would be soon rectified. another cool feature
is that all the available channels are sorted into different categories like sports, regional, news, kids etc.
also, if you are into serious movie watching on channels like HBO, star movies etc, there is a great news for you. you get to see a brief storyline of the movies being aired, along with the rating. pre tatasky era, i used to search the net for the same purpose.again, the movie synopsis is not there for the regional ones.this is one feature I would like tata sky to include, since I like to watch other language movies like kannada, telugu etc.regarding the channel quality, its great, though not 100% DVD and cd quality.i saw some of the reviews highlighting this aspect, but they have to remember that DTH in india is in its early stages and there is a huge scope for improvement. there are a few malayalam channels like asianet plus, manorama that I miss, but considering the fact I get to see MANY MANY channels which I could NEVER DREAM of from the cable guyz, its ok. good news for hindi speaking guyz out there. channels like discovery, animal planet, national geographic, history also provide a hindi audio feed too in addition to the english one. if there is one negative about tatasky, its the absence of a good number of foreign channels. of late they have added BBC entertainment(exclusively to tata), so we can expect more in the future.
the one great aspect about tatasky is that, there are different packages with attractive channels.and the packages are charged on a daily basis.let me make it clear.for a rs.200 plan, you pay 200/30per day. this package doesnt have channels like tensports, neosports, hbo etc. so if an important match is coming up on tensports, u can request for a higher package which includes tensports for the day of that match only. so if that package costs, say 300/month u have to pay 300/30 for that day instead of 200/6. isnt this cool? there is a freedom of choice. with my cable guyz, i had to pray that they provide tensports for watching the match.
regarding the influence of weather, i must say that it has been very good so far. during the 20-20 final it rained heavily in my place and the cable fellow’s signal went down. this along with tata sky ensured that we could witness the moments of glory, when our neighbours were busy cursing the cable guys. there was a brief delay of only about 2mins. reading those reviews which say aout poor signal quality and weather response of tata sky, iam surprised. mine is a very remote village in kerala, and if I could get such exceptional quality signals, iam sure everywhere else in the country it would be great as well.
regarding their customercare, i must say that they were very polite when I rang them up on a few occasions, and they seemed very informative and confident.
tatasky has been a REVELATION for guyz like me, who never thought before that TV viewing would be so cool and enjoyable, who were fed up with the mediocre services from the cable guys.
