I had purchased Tata Sky in april 08 through an advertisement given by ICICI Bank Credit Card using helpline and credit card, installed on 14-04-2008. Before purchase I have made an enquiry couple of times, about the conditions and facilities they provide. The site clearly states they are going to provide 20 metres of wired connection.
Even the customer service representatives assured it will be 20 metres and if required we will give a parallel tv connection through RF signal free of cost.
The day arrived it took one week to get the tatasky instrument in courier, and I called the helpline, then on 14-04-08 they installed it, and the service technician started refusing to give wire more than 15 metres, and no RF connection will be given. You need to pay rs. 1000/- extra to get the service done unofficially.
Agitated with this I spoke to service centre couple of times, and each time a new CSR comes into picture, people shuffle the issue, and speak to the Field Technicial not to charge as it is free. All these conversations were recorded by Tata Sky call centre.
Suddenly the issue is not responded. I have gave a written complaint explaining how they fool the customer for getting the sale done. It was a huge burden for me purchasing it, for rs.3500/- at once which includes installation, and I had opt for emi option, after which I receive the connection with misbehaviour and representations by the CSR desk of TataSky. I could have got an option to switch to another operator DISHTV or Sun Direct, instead.
I had write to them several times, and escalate to even nodal officer. All of them never replied suppressing the matter. When I had called the Call Centre about the status of the complaint, they used to put it on hold and never reply. I had to demand to get it escalated to the higher officals.
I have even posted a letter to the main office, despite which, a helpdesk team special csr had spoke with me, and instead of understanding the problem they rendered, she started in an abusive language, they even dont speak english properly other than abusing words utterly hurting the customer feelings. Their only expectaions are customer should never call them, but has to recharge properly in time Rs. 350/- pm(inclusive of tax) so that tata people can enjoy benefits out of customers money.
They were not even patient to atleast tell the status, out of their rude behaviour I insisted them to even observe the call recordings which they must have, and take action against those who gave false and fabricated assurances for the sale getting done, or refund the money.
They rudely and adamantly replied,
"After a sale is done, we will not look at it after. We as a company have the right to do everything we want. We provide the quality signal."
I had insisted to provide quality in service first, insisted the trai regulations to be followed, but the customers voice was left in vain. I had no option.
I had experienced several other problems with their connection, and signal, but was never addressed.
After I had repaid all my emis I decided to switch to Sundirect, as it was affordable though looks like a local cable tv, but a better option than Tata Sky. Atleast in the recharge perspective, it costs only Rs. 75/- pm and additional channels required can be ordered, which is what trai was inisiting on operators but practically not followed.
I disconnected tata sky in october 2008, and then I get a call from them, why you had to disconnect tata sky, you have to continue, what can we do for you, bla bla bla.
I have only questioned them why you are asking this today, why did you not ask on the day 1 when such a horrifying experience happened, where were you at that time. Please let us know what we can do?
I asked them refund my money, that I invested on box. They again replied once a sale done we dont look at it.
I replied to them, then this clearly shows that you want customer money, and you are not interested in service. they again stated we dont want you to discontinue, go for a recharge and continue using tata sky.
Pity how hungry they are for customers money. I told them mercilessly disconnect it. I dont require tatasky.
They said, atleast make the connection transferred, as it will effect our no of active connections.
Really they are hungry crooks.
After then I receive a call from the GM from Mumbai, asking me not to quit tata sky subscription.
I clearly replied them not interested. They asked me about the feedback.
I said I gave the feedback long back in an email and mail posted. Please refer it.
Again I hear can you change your decision. Clearly I replied, I cannot, you can take back your dish, I have sent a request in email and posted the same to everyone as cc.
Surprisingly the connection is still active. I receive all the updates regularly on the mobile phone.
Dont go for TataSky or RelianceBig, Tata and Reliance are a big fraud, only interested in extracting high volumes of money from little group of customers with a bad service.
They are unfair in their service means.
Looks silly but this is the reality I have seen so far including me.
Opt for either
DISH TV atleast you get all channels at a nominal price, despite service issues, since I dont know.
or
Sundirect, a very afordable, quality of signal is good, service problems exist, but atleast they solve it on complaint to helpline in a week, if distributors are careless. They are poor in english. But a good replacement for cable operators. You have the flexibilty of choice of channels you see, as per trai recommendations.

Airtel, initially they were like tata or reliance, but the brand name seems to be ok for now as they are giving good service. I just heard this from many, but have no experience to comment on this.
