I already had Tata Sky on one of My Tv’s and had recently purchased another set for my bedroom so I wanted another connection. I thought I would try out Dish TV This time as bascially there was very little difference in cost of Installing a second Tata Sky connection Vs a New Dish TV Connection. Plus Dish TV was offering DVR facilityu which I wanted to try out.
However When I went to the dealer( he had both Dish TV and Tata Sky) I noticed that The picture quality was noticable better in Tata Sky. I asked the Dealer who at first denied it but when I persisted he said thay there was a minor difference is quality and this was different from Channel to channel. Any way When I asked for his opinion between the two he said that basically there is no difference but the fact that the Installation service for Tata Sky was much superior as the techinicans were better trained and on the company rolls while Dish TV installation was done by the distributor.
So any way As I felt that Tata Sky was giving a better signal I decided to stick with them and not take Dish TV.
So I bought the Set top box and called up their help line. This was around 8 pm in the evening. After the Rep took down my details he scheduled an appointment for 3 days later. I requested him to try and do it sooner to which he said that he would block the appointment three days later but also put in a request for an earlier installation date. He said I would receive a call from their Center if an earlier slot was available else the people would come on the schedules time. He said that there was a rush of new connections so there was tremendous pressure and thus they were unable to give earlier dates. So I was resigned to waiting 3 days for the installation.
Imagine my Surpise when I got a call at 9 am the NEXT day( remember I had called only at 8 pm the pervious night). they said that their team was free and if I wanted They would come in 15 mins.
The people who came were very throughly trained( I was not around when they had first installed the dish) and did the wiring quite efficeiently. They also gave me tips on how I can later get the wires concealed by my electrician without haveing to rewire the whole setup.
As for the Quality I am very happy. So far all my TV’s have good picture quality. Though I do suspect that after installing the second TV the Quality has come down marginally but that might be my imagination.
Tata Sky has fewer channels than Dish TV but I think mostly all the main channels are present. Plus as of now Tata Sky has Neo Sports which Dish Does not have.
Price wise both are mostly the same. around Rs 300 for the 1st Connection per month and Rs 100 per month for the additional Connections( up to three additional connections can be added)
Dish TV does Advertise the DVR service where you can digitally records programs and see them later. But non of the Dealers I visisted were aware of this facility. They all said that they have heard about it not had no clue about it.
Any way I believe Tata Sky will also Introduce it sooner or later so I will try and get that then.
But I must say again I was really impressed by the Excellent Installation service.
One thing I should mention is that even though I refilled my A/c for the installation charge the account balance still shows as negative on the TV menu. However When I called up the help line they confirmed my payment. So I am not sure if that will cause me problems later. Will keep you all posted.
