I got a tata sky connection installed on 13th September. I am writing this review about my initial impression of tata sky service.
I considered reliance DTH first but decided not to go because quality of their DTH service is their own web world was poor (sales person gave me some excuse). Not a good way to market yourself at your own store.
I was looking for a good offer for DTH service and I got one when I saw tata sky Rs 3999 offer with 400 days of super saver package with a 6month EMI option on my ICICI credit card.
I ordered the same on 4th September via call center (took 14 minutes to place the complete order) and the package was delivered on 6th September. I placed a installation request via call center again on 1th September. I got extra 30 days for using a family and friend coupon.
I got a call in 15 minutes for a suitable time for installation. I requested for installation after 3 pm on Saturday which got accepted surprisingly.
The installation person called me at 2 PM on 13th September to confirm the installation request and know about the nearest landmark. He was at my place at 3:25 pm.
2 People came to install and same was finished by 4:30 pm. But then he hit a problem despite him activating the tata sky it would not activate and he then contacted customer care they told him that server is down. During his time at my home he explained to me about the charges. Any service related to digicomp is free for first year. The charges are Rs 350 per visit for realigning the dish and anything related to cable wire. You could take an amc of Rs 500 per year after 1 year. He waited till 5:30 pm after that I allowed him to go home.
He promised my call as soon as my connection is activated. He called 8:30 am next day.
At the same time I got a sms on my mobile number also confirming my activation and subscriber id.
Now about the tata sky service
Over all picture quality is very good and it is working great with my new LG scarlet LCD.
Sound quality is not CD quality
I opted for sports platinum and ten sports package through tata sky website. Recharging the account through website was effortless and both package were added to my account within 5 minutes.
I enjoyed EPL and Champions League matches in last 6 days.
Overall cost for the first 14 months is not bad as compared to cable guy.
It is 3999 (super saver 400 days) + 30 free days (friends and family offer) + 10 months of Life style package which costs 450 (initial 4 months is free if tata sky is bought online or via customer care) + 14 months of sports platinum (Rs 560) + 2 month neo sports for IPL (Rs 60) + 14 months of ten sports (Rs 210)
The same comes to Rs 5219. The per month cost is 5219/14 = Rs 372
Cable cost in Bangalore is Rs 1000 (installation) + 3500 (14 month) = Rs 4500. Per month cost is Rs 321.
No doubt DTH is costly compared to cable but I like the better quality picture.
Another negative point is you cannot change (or remove) your packages online, you need to call customer care and there is no other way of doing it also which is bad.
Over all I will recommend the service to anybody who don’t mind paying extra.

I have been using tata sky for now 7 months and still the quality is as good as it was on day 1.
No service issue has been encountered when the tata sky was shut for more than 1 month as I was out of Bangalore due to work.
Only irritating issue is tata sky keep change plans and cost of the add on packages.
Rest is excellent.

I recently upgraded to tata sky plus. It is superb product from tata sky.
You can recorded 2 channels at a time.
You can watch one channel and record another at the same time.
You can pause, rewind, and fast forward.
The hard disk is 160 GB.
If anyone plans to buy a set top box then go for tata sky plus and you wont regret your decision.
Tata sky has one the best service compared to the other dth providers.
