Ridiculous, lying customer service agents

Debating between Tata Sky and Airtel HD DTH, I went for Tata Sky due to a friend’s recommendation. I booked my set-top box on May 3rd and it’s been an absolute bloody nightmare interacting with the customer service and field engineers since then. A chronology:




  1. Installation scheduled for 10:00 am on a Friday, engineer turns up short on 11:00 am with a nonchalant excuse of being stuck in traffic - not a reason one would expect from anyone who lives in B’lore - traffic is horrible, but it’s a part of life, plan around it!




  2. As I had bought the connection on May 3rd, I’m eligible for a free installation, but since day 1, my account balance has been - Rs 500. Upon contacting the customer service on May 6th, I was told that this is an error on their part, and would be reversed in a day or two - fair enough I thought. Since this wasn’t done as of this morning(May 9th), I called them again and was told by a lady that someone would call me back shortly confirming that this has been reversed - no call as of 11:30pm. I called their customer service yet again and was told that this was a valid charge which I had to pay! Spoke to the supervisor, who said that this was an error and would be reversed. I asked for documentation to support this statement and he said he’d send a SMS to that effect. I got the SMS, which just said the equivalent of a ticket being opened on this account. As you can see, I was lied to, and misled all the damn time. In the meantime, I get a message on my TV that my connection will get disconnected at midnight tonight due to non-payment of dues. Very upset that these people are sullying the name of Tata - I will never again be a Tata customer. I AM BEING PENALIZED FOR BEING THEIR CUSTOMER!




  3. There’s an issue with the recording function on the set-top box since last evening(during the RCB - KTK match) and I was promised that their engineer would come to my house today(May 9th). This morning I got an SMS that the engineer will be at my place at 5:00 pm, and I asked my wife to ensure she was available to get this done. The engineer calls me at 3:15 pm and says(not asks, but says) that he is coming over now; I respond that he should come at the scheduled time of 5:00 pm and he agrees. From 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm, I try the engineer’s number but he keeps disconnecting my call - my wife’s put her other plans on hold and is waiting at home! Finally, the engineer calls me at 7:30 pm and says(again, says, not asks) that he’s coming now and I refuse as we’re going out for a pre-scheduled appointment, and unlike Tata Sky, do not like to keep people waiting. The engineer says he’ll come tomorrow at xx time and if he doesn’t turn up, I can call some number - I lose it and blast him and then after a fair bit of mumbling, he says he will come. Let’s see how long he keeps us waiting for this time.






I’m so upset - wanted something to relax and enjoy and all I’ve gotten in return is angst, indifference, and in no small measure, extreme frustration! I have offered . requested them to collect their equipment and refund my money, but that’s just brushed aside.I just don’t know what to do.
