This review was not necessary, but the kind of service I got from Tata Sky, was worth a mention so am putting this up.
I am based in Hyderabad, but I don’t belong to this place. A normal tendency of the cable people here is that, all the regional channels come very clear but the channels that I watch are placed on the band, where it is hazy and not clear. After repeated quarrels with my local cable guy which lasted some 6 months. I decided to go for a DTH service. Choosing a service provider was difficult. I visited both Dish TV and Tata Skys website. I even left my phone nos with the site to get a call back. Dish TV called me very
promptly explaining me about its service(It was kind of a recorded script that the call center person read out) both from the tone as well as the mannerism, the person sounded rude and in a hurry. As if I tried out Tata sky call center, and found it too polite to be true for a call center. That was the first impression. On further comparison and user reviews in mouthshut, I concluded that I should go in for Tata sky. The time was right, Tata Sky is offering 3 months free subscription, so on 27th Feb I called the Tata sky helpline, and
placed an order for a digicomp with them. The very next day, I got a call from Tata sky, who wanted an appointment with me to deliver the product. I asked him to come in the evening with the Digibox and a 1000 RCV(needed for the installation). Evening 8PM he delivered the digibox, showed and explained me
the contents of the box. On receiving the digibox, at around 9 PM I again called in the helpline to register an appointment for the installation of the same. I was given the slot of 5-9PM on the 2nd March as there were no other slots available. To my surprise, the very next morning on the 28th Feb, I received a call from their
installation engineer, requesting if it would be possible to pre-pone the
appointment to the evening of 28th Feb. I was delighted, and asked him to come
at 4PM. He was right on time, 4PM on the dot, he was there with one more helper
and all the required equipments. Neatly dressed, with the ID card and all. He
inspected the premises and earmarked a place to hoist the antennae. Mind you
the installation was very very professional
I was surprised by the kind of tools he was carrying(just to give an
insight, he used a small suction pump, to remove the suspended debris
inside the drilled holes which he drilled using his drill machine.) that was
the kind of precision with which they work. I was surprised, because I had not
seen a neater job being done earlier. Airtel broadband people were one who
impressed me, but this exceeded Airtel and my expectation :-).
Within 20 minutes the antennae was
up, the signal was tested and the direction was fixed. All screws tightened at
79 degrees SE direction of the sky with signal strength of 80. The cabling was
neatly done and in less than 40 minutes, (after making a call for the
activation) the TV came alive. The remote is a breeze, the UI is simply great.
The categorization of the channels based on the genre is superb. Need not
remember the channel nos, it just takes a fraction more than our TV remotes to
change channels. Picture quality is excellent, however it’s not uniform across
the channels. Some channels, the images appear smeared(zee channels) if looked
from a close proximity. Sound is not all that great as advertised. I anyways,
use a home theatre so doesn’t matter to me. All in all, an excellent product.
Not sure about the rain outages, but heard that it fails in the rain. Well, am prepared
for the rains and most importantly the cricket world cup now.
