Ok, having got tired of paying the local cable guy 200/- per month for substandard quality channels I was relieved to see all the positive responses to Tata Sky. I called up their help line to find out if they had started offering their service in my are in Hyderabad. I liked the help line, did not have to wait more than 5 sec to get to talk to the customer executive.
The executive told me that the only channels not currently available with the service were those from Sun Network - Gemini, Teja, Teja news, Sun TV, etc. What the guy did not tell me was the CNN-IBN wasn’t available either. Having given it a thought we decided to go for it hoping the Sun Channels would soon get introduced.
So I placed the order for the hardward equipment. The guy on the helpline told me it would arrive in a week but strangely the very next day their delivery guy called me to schedule a delivery time. OK so I got the hardware - on set top box along with remote and other wires. Also got a 1000/- rupees recharge. Paid him 4000/- in cash to him. 3000/- for the hardware and 1000/- as recharge.
The delivery guy told me to call up the help line and schedule an installation time. So I called the help line again. This time the guy told me there were no slots available for another 3 days and so I had to wait for a few more days. But strangely again after only 1/2 hr the service engineer calls me directly to know if I was available at home so the installation can be done. What better than that!
So the service folks came down laden with all their equipment. The setup of the dish and other wiring took not more than 20 minutes. And the service was up and running in another 10 minutes. A quick demo of all the features followed which I thought was a good one.
The picture quality is as advertised excellent and the service has not had any interruptions.
