I am living in Delhi. In Dec 2006, when CAS implementation
was in force, I had to take a call to buy either CAS or a DTH. After evaluating
all the options, I took Tata Sky.
In this review I would like to share my 5 months experience with Tata
Sky.
Cost : Expensive one time
*Since I have 2 televisions, the total initial cost I had to pay a huge
amount. For both the sets was Rs 7500.In terms of monthly rent, Tata sky provided
to be decent, since it would cost me Rs 400 per month( Rs300 for he basic and
Rs 100 for the additional set). CAS was charging the full amount for each TV.
this would cost me around 600 Rs Per month. In case one has more than 1 TV,
TataSky is a good option
Image and sound Quality **: Excellent
Tata sky does a good job in image and sound quality. I have never faced any
challenges with it.
Channels: Poor
I had the jumbo pack in which TataSky claimed to provide the entire set of
channels. *
Ever since I took Tata Sky, they have been reducing the good channels
and adding some stupid channels. This package comes for Rs. 300
Also, channels like Neo sports were only
provided during the matches.
They have started a filthy practice now, now they added new package for
a) Sun tv, which would be another 50-60 Rs per month.
b) For some of the sports channel which are included in the Package, like Start Sports, Neo etc. would be charged additionally.
c) Some channels like NDTV Lifestyle etc would also be charged.
To sum up the channel boutique is not stable, they
keep on changing without notification and what it looks the Jumbo package is shrinking and if one has to take all the channels, they have to shed out around 500 Rs per month. I would ask TRAI and the court, how is the customer geting the power to choose, it is more power to the operaters to charge.
*Customer Service: Excellent
*Every time I called tatasky for any query, I was able to reach the phone
helpdesk in a 1-2 mins. Also all my queries got resolved soon.
*Active service: Who needs it ?
*Tata Sky provides some active service, which I never found useful. The
downside is, if one uses the active service the system hags and becomes
unresponsive. Unless they upgrade the hardware it is not much of use. Also, this service would be charged from Oct end.
Movie on Demand: Expensive
DTH and Tata Sky both have this feature. DTH with one years rental, gives the consumer
24 movies free and Tata sky gives no movie free and charges a hefty Rs 75 per
movie per day. The Showcase only plays hindi movies as of now.
The movie collection of Tatasky is also limited and has only 10-12 movies.
Except 3-4 movies, most of the movies they sell have already been telecasted on
some Star Channel.
Apne, which is available on Moser Baer sells DVD for Rs. 50 and Tata Sky show for the movie for Rs. 75 for 1 day.
To sum up, I am not very satisfied with TataSky...esp when it comes to Cost..which would soon be rising.
I would advise, before buying Tata Sky, compare with Dish TV. My perception it
Dish TV is more value for money and has more stable channel package.
