I had used Mouthshut for the first time when deciding to buy a DTH system back in Jan 07. I went through the reviews between Tatasky and DishTV and decided upon Tatasky. (Ofcourse, I have since then used Mouthshut often for other products but I will elaborate that in my other reviews.)
Frankly, I was frustrated with the reception quality provided by the local cable wallah and his innumerable unkept promises of fixing them. I called up Tatasky and I was told that they will send engineers to install it in a week. The engineers came within the specified timeframe and were very professional and quick when installing it. They explained to me everything on how it worked.
How I can find my account information using the remote, etc. After they left, I realized that my apartment terrace lock keys were missing. Obviously, this happened when they were installing the satellite on the terrace. And they had taken the keys for it. Luckily, one of the engineers came back and returned the keys. I liked the attitude.
However, I am not sure if the Customer Service guys share the same attitude. Touchwood, I had to call them only thrice in the past 18 months. The biggest issue is the hold time before we can contact them. Anyways all my problems/inquiries have been minor and been addressed quickly.
Some features of Tatasky are really good like putting a reminder for a show. Or checking out which movie is going on and a brief story about it. Or the option for some channels like Nat Geo, Discovery which can be viewed in Hindi or English. We can view the next 7 days programs for each channel and set a reminder.
Initially, I had a few problems in obtaining the refill voucher as most shops didnt have them, even though Tatasky claimed as such. However, once I discovered the online purchasing option, recharging has become a breeze. The link is https://tatasky.com/ways-to-recharge.html
Tatasky has recently started a monopolizing cheap stunt of making the sports channel, entertainment pack, etc separate from the Super Saver Pack and charging extra for it, even though technically these are Free to Air Channels.
Whoever has ratified this myopic idea needs to be fired and hire me instead. Though Tatasky may make some money in the short term with the existing customers who have already invested 3-4k in it and wouldnt want to migrate to DishTV or Cable, they will lose on new customers who will receive bad word of mouth publicity. Talk about killing the golden goose!
Another thing about the new 60 Showcase movies that are free... the movies are simply duds that have fallen flat at the box-office. e.g. Apne. I wouldnt even watch them for free. Cmon guys get some good quality stuff. Some good English movies is what I would like.
Overall, I would give Tatasky a Good rating because its the best out of the worser options that we have available for TVs. This is my first review so please comment about it. Hope it helped your decision making as others reviews did for me. Happy watching!!!
