Well, I sold my 2000 model safari and got the Dicor LX model. Its nice to know that Tata are doing all they can to push sales of the lower end models rather than the flashy and expensive VX model. After driving a safari for well over 6 years I feel that the comfort you get is unrivalled by any car in this price category. Moreover Tata has reduced the prices and for 7.78 OTR the Dicor is value for money. Add to it a good security system for Rs.4500 and a roof ac by the dealer for around Rs.20000 you get a great bargain compared to the EX model.
It is then upto you to fit whatever you want. The only complaint for me is the rather horrible squeaking of the front passenger seat from day one. Hope my dealer will fix it while I go for the first service. The mileage is much better now. In city I get around 10 KMPL with the AC and on the highway around 12 KMPL with AC again cruising at 100Kmph. Go any faster and the mileage dips to 10. The engine sound is now more quieter and the AC is better. However vibrations have crept in where there was none in the TCIC model.
On the whole a good bargain if you buy the LX version. It now comes with side foot rails and spare wheel cover in Silver SAFARI mark as well as standard. If only Tata removes the minor creaks and the slight tail door rattling, it could be a fantastic vehicle.
