Hello everyone .....
This is my debut in writing a review on this site ...
i happened to drive tata safari and mahindra scorpio on the same day and luckly that day came
many times a week .. well I have driven other suvs like qualis , sierra and even the much talked about pajero
i have a friend who was intrested in buying one of these 2 fabulous cars or to say suvs .
i mean the used car here ..
so whenever the dealer used to come with cars I happened to drive different models of the same
car
let me state the details
tata safari - 1998, 2001, 2002
mahindra scorpio - 2002, 2003
people here I wouldnt state the specifications of the 2 cars .. becoz anyone can get it on the net
what I intend to write about is my experience with these cars
so get set go ....
- Pick up
In this arena scorpio was definately ahead of safari ..
the 2.6L engine of scorpio is definately a treat
but hold on ... the pick up of safari is not that bad as much as it is condemned
it is just okay and nothing great ....
- Ride
now now ...
safari is miles ahead in this sphere .. it is really very comfortable not only in the front
seats but also in the rear ones ...
i intentionally drove that vehicle fast over the bumps , spead breakers , also on wavy roads
but the suspension handles it really well
for scorpio ..
the ride is fine in the front .. but when I sat in the back seat .. it was like siting in a
car belonging to the small car segment .. definately bumpy - infact that was like a surprise
becoz I never expected this from a car which belongs to SUV segment ..
- Leg space
both the cars are fine in front but for the back seats .. definately safari scores ahead
of scorpio
scorpio is a bit cramped up in the in rear seats but safari is spacious and has lot of
leg space
- drive ..
well when u sit in the drivers seat .. both cars give different experiences
scorpio -
is faster . has a very good power steering . very low engine noise , but still after rolling up
the windows . it pulls up better on the inclined plane - tested it on a over bridge . gear shift
was okay nothing great ...
safari-
slightly hungry for power .. does just okay . gear shift is fine but slightly problematic
in lower gears but this problem is less in the later models . engine noise is also less in the
later models .. still u dont feel it when u roll up the windows .
both cars have good visibility . and what so ever anyone says they are both a problem to park
in a cramped up place
both the cars have good power steerings but somehow I found the power steering of safari better
than scorpio
both were very stable at high speeds I mean around 110 kms
now braking ...
for this safari is better and more responsive to the press of the pedal
and also more stable when u break at high speeds ...
scorpio was okay in braking deptt. but good in stability when breaking at high speeds
u find safari better in braking and stability becoz of the more responsive brakes the TATAs
have put in ..
so it gives u feel that the car is more stable
- AC
scorpio was good in the front but awhful in the rear
safari was also good in front but better in the rear than scorpio
but the dip in power felt becoz of AC is less in scorpio than in safari .. again the
2.6 L engine does the trick
- Off roading
sorry couldnt try that on either of the cars .. so wouldnt comment on that
7.space wise
safari is more spacious and also has much better interiors as compared to scorpio
- looks
looks wise every one has different likes and dislikes so I wudnt comment on that
all in all it was really a good experience to try these 2 one of the best SUVS in this
segment
I am waiting to drive terracan, endeavour and vitara ... lets see how these 2 behave
by the way my friend is planning to buy safari ......
