I own tata Tiago and its truly fantastic!, Lets Go through why and how.
Tiago is an mid variant compact hatch back and can be compared with hyndai i10, maruti wagon R, maruti celerio
in terms of price range and other features of the car.
I must not miss to say that its the people car, with financial affordability, Built quality, safety and the seating / driving comforts.
let me put the various factors together and set some marks for each factor out of 10
1] SAFETY [ Marks 8/10]
keep aside the subject that the TIAGO comes in many flavors right from engine and body basic version to the full fledged top end version.
but I point only towards the top end because its highly affordable for a common buyer in just 5.96 lakhs Rs on road with full fledged vehicle safety features viz two Airbags, ABS, EBD, Corner stability control and along with this tata have provided auto door lock, center locking and child lock feature, multi focus head lights and fog light,
Door alarm, Seat belt alarm and much more
Right now in the market there is no alternative for the TIAGO with these price tag and safety features.
2 marks have been reduced because of head light high beem focus is having the issue that
(1) wattage of the head light bulb is just 60 W
(2) High beam adjustment is off the road and night drive is miserable if you not replace the bulbs and re-adjust the focus properly.
2] FUEL ECONOMY [Marks 8/10]
TATA have installed its intelligent revotron engine with city and eco mode for petrol variants engine and revotorq engines for the diesel variants
Till the first service that is up to 3500 kms of first run vehicle is non economical and its about 12 kms per lts in the city and about 15 - 16 kms on the high way in ECO mode, but after the first service the vehicle performance is improving noticeable with 17 kmpl in the city and between 21 to 25 kmpl on the high way in ECO mode.
and the Diesel variant is reported to be 23 to 27 kmpl on the high way and about 17 kmpl in the city.
notable in both the Diesel and Petrol variants while riding on AC the engine power is considerable bogging down
and affecting the performance of the car, especially in the ghat sections.
3] SEATING COMFORT [ Marks 6/10]
the seating in the front is excellent and safe with the full fold-able seats with height adjustment seats for the driver
but in the rear the TATAs have committed 2 mistakes
1) AC is taking too long time to reach the rear
2) Rear door window glasses cant be downed completely
3) Rear seats are slightly flat or I can say its slant
4) Leg room is quite less
5) Rear head room is Quite low, and the head hits the roof while the vehicle jumps at very high speeds( beyond 100 kmph)
6) though the rear suspension is good enough, but with more weight at the rear with fatty 3 passengers and some luggage in the back the rear wheels are giving thudding sounds hitting the chassis.
but must mention that in this compact hatch backs the rear seat comforts always compromised by the manufacturer, tats would have extended the legroom bit more and widened the rear seat, they would have fetched 2 marks extra.
4] Reliability, Built quality, Look and oscillation [Marks 7/10]
Look is excellent and smiley and perfect aero dynamic structure
Built quality is excellent except the roof light and the boot space light, the quality of the lights were compromised here and also boot space lights would have been made automatic instead of manual.
Oscillation Since its an 3 cylinder engine the oscillations are expected one but as compare to the other competitors in the same class of engine TIAGO is little backword.
1) Engine sound id too much as compare to the Maruti celerio
2) The gear lever oscillates too much
but while on run the oscillation and the engine sound is too low and hence is not the matter of worry.
5] Infotainment accessories [Marks 9/10]
Music system provided is excellent
vehicle parking sensor is excellent
