A 10 minute walk from Leopolds, in one of Mumbai’s busy bylanes, inside Fariyas Hotel, is lodged ‘Tavern’. A very prim and proper pub. The corners are not so cosy as much as the ambience. Long bar stools with square glass tables make up the furnishings.
Unconfirmed reports say that Fariyas has spent as much as 1 crore on their furnishings.
Almost above each table are spike lites. These special lites have a tiny lite at the end of each spike which just about illuminate your table. So dont try to get cosy with your babes, you might get ‘spiked’. The pillars of the pub are made up of round wooden slabs that blend extremely well with the other wooden finishes.
Tavern has 2 striking noticeable differences from other pubs. They haven’t spared their pockets, when it came to creating an ambience to a place you can call a pub, unlike many others.
They haven’t misered up on the no. of TV’s, as 4 TV’s fitted loom from over the bar, beam you up with updates from 4 most interesting channels according to me. Channel V, MTV, Star Sports and the ‘hottest’ channel FTV.
So one has plenty a choice, and still if you find it insufficient, my advise is go to gateway, and one has ‘live’ ‘feeds’ from ‘BeggarTV’. The 2nd most striking feature is a @6x4 screen that plays the music video that the DJ mixes.
The Dj churns out excellent rock music, though I don’t think Tavern lives on rock music only, but the day I went, it was a ‘rockin’ nite. Food is quite expensive, with hardly anything less than 100 bucks, a pitcher is 225 bucks and a cold drink is 35.
Expensive, you think???Let me make you decide. 5 pitchers, 1 cold drink, one plate of french fries and one cocktail, amounted to a hefty 1400 bucks.
I wondered whether they found only me to pay towards the 1 crore!!!
