I was fortunate enough to watch Taxi No 9211 yesterday and I must admit that I enjoyed the movie. Not that its one of the best made flicks but it’s not that bad either.
The Movie is about drama which unfolds during a day in life of two gentlemen (if I may say so). Nana Patekar is a taxi driver and John is a son of rich affluent businessman. Both are head strong and have lots of attitude. And the movie shows what happens when two such people happen to meet.
The cast is well chosen and actors perfectly fit to characters they portray. I mean there could hardly be anyone other than Nana, who cold suit the role of a Taxi driver. As usual he gives his full, has done a wonderful job and is great with his dialogs. His one liners are hilarious. Sonali Kulkarni who plays his wife has also done full justice to the role. The other couple John and Samira suit to be rich and affluent. But their performance is weak and this is more noticeable in presence of seasoned actors like Nana and Sonali. John has done a good job but there is still a lot for him to improve. John enacts being a spoilt brat perfectly but he falls short when displaying emotions. For example John could have done a better job when he lures Nana to drive faster or when he finds his Will torn. Samira Reddy is just there and doesn’t have much to do.
The director has done a good job to make the film look sleek. It’s a fast paced movie and doesn’t bore audience. The dialogs are good and attract a few laughs. For those who have not seen the English film from which this is inspired, the story is unpredictable. The viewer sympathy swings between John and Nana.
On technical front the stunts are very well picturised. The highway mishap, Nana chasing Samira and the local train banging the Taxi are superb. But there are few things which are hard to digest and can be considered as cinematic liberty. There is nothing much to say about the music. The ending is a typical Bollywood movie type and doesn’t leave any loose threads. I suppose with the concluding scene of the movie the director intends to send message, that all is not over and good things can still happen :). Would like to suggest the audience not to leave till the credits roll up.
Overall a fresh and decent movie which can be watched once.
