He used to be my favorite author - when I discovered him at 15 - with Rage of Angels - I was mega thrilled - imagine a great author with a flood of books ahead of me to read in my lifetime - I read Master of the Game, Windmills of the Gods, If Tomorrow Comes -and thought - man this author is God.
But then either I grew up or he grew down. His books started to grow a bit stale, extra terrestrials, nuns - what more will thou invent to be different - the storylines obvious where you could just expect the twist. And tell me your dreams was the last straw. The media was all abuzz with the new trend of split personalities - it was thrown at you in law serials, in movies, in articles of psychology and suddenly it was the new human invention - a schizo.
And guess what thats what Mr. Sydney uses - so much so that from the time I started the book it was obvious that hey - this is what it is and I am oh so disappointed in the guy. He over elaborated the process, tries to race you down the terror, attempts to describe the suspense, stretches the story badly and fails in all very miserably.
The story dragged on so much that I was tearing my hair that it should finish - no but it goes on and on and no thriller, no expectations, nothing!! Mr Sydney where is Jennifer from Rage of Angels, where is Tracey from If tomorrow comes and I even miss Mary from Windmills of the Gods. You were so brilliant in capturing the facets of these women - making them all out to be survivors of the new millenium who experienced life and got ahead inspite of the odds - who were the most unusual of them all - intelligent women - a species that even women admit are hard to find.
Forgive me my teenage ideal - but this book not only makes me shudder when I see your name on any book but has convinced me that I am better off spending time reading a boring magazine versus spending on your further books. Much as I think that one of your sequels did attempt to match the originals. I do however live my dreams and expectations of you reading Rage of Angels again and again and it convince me that I was not that naive at 15 - it was a great book
So to those of you who need an intro to the world of split personalities try tell me your dreams and to those who know the concept stay away - you are better off dreaming your own imaginative, crazee dreams or better still if you do want to read a good book try Rage of Angels
