Well, 2006 was a record breaking year for the Hindi Film industry. Even films which were not successes were brilliant efforts, so choosing 5 is hard but the following five definitely deserve a place as one of the best films of 2006.
Rang De Basanti - The greatest film ever! I don’t think I am going far, it was a fantastic effort from Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra. The acting was faboulous from Aamir Khan to Kunal Kapoor. The music was extra-ordinary from the one and only AR Rahman. I definitely believe RDB should win the Best Film even though it has been beaten by LRMB in the award functions so far. Excellent film, a must see.
Taxi No.9211 - One of the most under-rated films of the year. 9211 was an excellent effort from Milan Luthria who got his first hit. The music was fantastic, especially Ek Nazar Mein Bhi. Both Nana Patekar and John Abraham gave fantastic performances. Nana Patekar’s dialogues were sure to bring a smile on the viewer’s faces.
Omkara - Not a hit at the Box Office, but appreciated by everyone who has seen it and by the critics. There was definitely quite a lot of swear words, but they were needed to take the film further. Beedi is a super-hit song and has turned to be one of the most popular songs of the year. Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan both deserve their awards. Ajay Devgan was also great.
Krrish - My favourite super-hero, India’s biggest super-hero, Krrish. Krrish is the third biggest hit of the year and the fifth biggest overall. Krrish has become a cult character. The music is pleasing to the ears, especially Koi Tumsa Nahin. The stunts were marvellous. The only negative point was Priyanka Chopra’s role was not great because she is such a talented actress. Hrithik Roshan rose to the challenge of playing a villager and superhero and showed his amazing acting abilities and range. What a super-star! He deserves all the accolades for Krrish.
Lage Raho Munnabhai - The sequel to MBBS, and this is even better than the predecessor. Rajkumar Hirani is a very talented director. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi are so good, this is definitely their best roles. Munnabhai and Circuit are the best partners in Bollywood. The music is also very good, especially Pal Pal Har Pal.
