Let’s face it, 10 hit movies in a year is something Bollywood has not achieved for some time yet. Yes there are critically acclaimed films that do nothing on the box office and then there are box office hits that critics don’t want to touch. So at the end of the day, all it boils down to is individual opinion. With that in mind, let’s get down to the list of top 10 movies of 2007(PS: I have not seen Chak de India)
10) Namaste London
This movie is an accurate description of what is actually happening in the UK today. Men and women from India are getting married to people in the UK and are facing problems of all kinds.
Namaste London is a feel good movie or love triumphing. I loved this one.
9) Aaja Nachle
Well lets just say I am a little biased to this one(saw it with my ex). The movie was surprisingly fast for its short plot, but I enjoyed Askhaye’s cameo and Madhuri actually did a role that fitted her age(a sign of things to come).
Direction was good and ‘O re piya’ is a really good song.
8) Bhool Bhulaiya
Well the only reason this made the list is because it was better than the other two below it. Not to mention Akshay does have a rather funny way of saying stuff in the movie. Not a bad show.
7) Om Shanti Om
Sorry if you liked this movie, but I am sorry. Indian cinema needs to get a little more realistic. Rebirth and other concepts are hardly what the public is waiting to digest. I like my cinema a little more realistic(unless it is science fiction). So 7 is about the right place for this movie.
6) Ta Ra Rum Pum
I liked this movie, not because Saif and Rani are a good pair, I liked it because, the movie is all about loosing everything and then starting from zero. Something people have to do at least once in their lives. I would not call Ta Ra Rum Pum an inspirational movie, but it is a feel good movie at the end.
5) Ek Lavya Royal Guard
Amitabh Bacchan at it again, loved the action aspect of the movie and even more the little bit of suspense thrown in at the end. In all eventuality it was a good movie that deserved the critical acclaims it won.
4) Cheeni Kum
Finally, a movie that is really low on the romance. Unlike other movies, this one is all about love as it is today. No non-sense love story with an twist. I liked the title of the movie and I agree, this movie really is a sugar free romance.
3) Guru
A movie about how one person can choose not to fight the system, but live within it and make a fortune. How the worst and best of a person can be put aside when he makes choices. In a nutshell, Abhishek Bacchan portrays a person that every person wants to be.
2) Life in a Metro
I guess, critical acclaim has always been a criteria while picking movies. I loved this movie. It is an honest( a little melodramatic) representation of the love life of people living metro cities in India.
1) Jab We Met
I have no idea what people have against this movie. To be honest this was the movie of the year. Great acting by both actors involved. Excellent chemistry and the best part is that there was just the right does of romance, tragedy and humor in the movie. A really light movie that is close to the heart(no I did not watch this with my ex).
