Le Creme De Le Creme !

You say ’’We ain’t got nothing in common ,

No common ground to start from

And we’re falling apart ’’.

You say , the   world has come between us

Our lives have come between us ,

Still I know you just don’t care .

And I said ’’What about Breakfast at TIffany’s ?’’

She said’’ I think I rememeber the film . I guess , I recall I think we both kinda liked it ’’

And I said ’’Well thats one thing we’ve got’’..........

Deep Blue Something

And that is exactly how the magic of movies   acts as a common ground between two people, totally different from each other . If it wasn’t for one movie or another ,   a lot of dates would be more awkward and a lot of informal chitchat would be even more boring . And when it comes to movies it would be an understatement to say ....’’I’ve seen it all’’ . And I like most of the stuff that I see......I like Citizen Kane and I like Face Off....I like

the Merchant-Ivorys , the Tarantinos and I like the Ridley Scotts . As such , picking ten best movies was a toughie for me .But now that I’ve finally shortlisted them , it seems like I couldn’t really have settled for anything else . I know there’ll always be a hundred more movies that could be   worthy   of the top ten slot .But these are my favourites .

10)Cape Fear: All of you who think , remakes can never match the original version , go and watch this movie . It was released first in 1962 , directed by J. Lee Thompson and starred

Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum in the leads . If you think that was awesome , hang on . The 1991 version was directed by Martin Scorsese and featured an all star cast of Robert Deniro , Nick Nolte , Jessica Lange , Juliette Lewis etc .If you ask me which one is better . Sorry , I just dont know . All that I know is that , this movie is one of the best and most gripping psychological thrillers that I’ve ever seen . The acting in both the versions was brilliant !

9)A Clockwork Orange:Based on Anthony Burgess’s disturbing novel about England in the totalitarian future, Malcolm McDowell portrays Alex, a Beethoven-loving, head-bashing punk who leads his gang of ’’droogs’’ on ultra-violent assaults , until he is captured by authorities and subjected to nasty behavior-modification therapy. Produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick this is two and a half hours of classic cinema .

8)One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest: Milos Forman directs the movie adapting faithfully from Ken Kesey’s stirring novel. This movie made clean sweep at the Oscars lifting the awards for Best Actor , Actress , Picture and Director . A rare achievement in Hollywood , where only two other movies achieved this , as far as my memory stretches ....It Happened One Night and Silence of the Lambs. Jack Nicholson was at his very best in this movie , specially in the scene where he narrates   a World Series game that’s not on TV .

7)Apocalypse Now: This is also one of the best war movies I’ve seen .Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness , Francis Ford Coppola directs this magnum opus starring Martin Sheen , Marlon Brando , Harrison Ford , Robert Duvall , Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper, Harrison Ford, Scott Glenn etc .The movie achieved new heights in bringing out the emotions and dilemmas that goes through the minds of a soldier when he’s asked to kill people he hasn’t even seen in his entire life . It portrays how separate the men-at-war really are , from the politics that sends them there . Sheen’s intimate, diary-like narration is the best part of the movie .

6)A Time To Kill:This movie boasts of an all star cast made up of Matthew McConaughey, Samuel Jackson , Sandra Bullock , Donald Sutherland , Kiefer Sutherland , Ashley Judd , Oliver Platt etc .From an entertainment perspective, this movie is almost faultless. It offers an engaging plot, an heart-warming story, and the characters present us with a complex interconnected web of relationships that makes us believe what we are seeing is real. McConaughey and Jackson give surprisingly believable performances and compliment each other well. The supporting cast is also impressive .

5)A Few Good Men: A Few Good Men is ignited by a clash of values, courtroom fireworks, and a dazzling display of topnotch acting from Tom Cruise , Jack Nicholson , Demi Moore , Kevin Bacon , Kiefer Sutherland etc. Director Rob Reiner makes the most of the colorful characters and the snappy dialogues . This riveting film compels us to consider our attitudes toward the military, the legitimacy of unblinking obedience to superiors, the high price of conformity, and the persecution of the weak.

4)Fight Club: With its kinetic style, visceral approach, compelling storyline, and powerful social message, Fight Club makes a commanding impact on your mind .The experience lingers, demanding to be pondered and considered, and, unlike 95% of modern-day thrillers, there is a great deal here to think about and argue over.. Edward Norton stars as a cynical but mild-mannered employee of a major automobile manufacturer who is suffering from a bout of insomnia. He soon meets Brad Pitt and thats when his life turns upside down . Great script , awesome direction and mind-blowing acting. Bradd Pitt is not just a pretty face after all .....!!

3)Philadelphia: Jonathan Demme directs this amazing and relevant movie which stars Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks in the leads . The latter ended up giving an Oscar winning performance . The movie is about a man’s fight with the society and another man’s fight with his inner self.

2)Forrest Gump: Robert Zemeckisdirects this movie starring Tom Hanks as a childishly naive , idiot but tremendously lucky character . Though that description of Forrest Gump might be inadequate . I need to mention here that the soundtrack featured some of the greatest hits of all times including Sweet Home Alabama , Turn Turn Turn , Blowing in the Wind etc.

1)The Godfather: The story revolves around the life and times of Vito Corleone , a mafia don with a big heart who makes a lot of enemies when he refuses to get into the Drug business. An amazing movie with every possible emotion thrown in to make it a classic . Marlon Brando plays The Don in a style that has become trademark over the years . Al Pacino gives his career’s best performance . The background score by Nino Rota is a masterpiece and haunts you forever . A masterpiece , directed by the one and only Francis Ford Coppola .
