5 StaR...

Hi everyone! This review only consists of all 5 movies that I personally liked and have liked for a long long time. Sorry for not having 10 but I realised that I was running out of room! I do know that there will be some choices which some of you won’t agree with...but, I like them.

Anyways, let’s start! (in no particular order)

PINJAR- this movie...I still cannot believe that it only won 1 award in the Filmfare awards...these award functions are rigged I tell you!... PINJAR was able to bring out the best in every actor/actress...

Urmila- her acting in this movie cannot be labelled as acting...it’s like real life...she portrayed her role of Puro effectively...when she cried, you cried, when she felt pain, you also felt the pain....

Manoj Bajpai- Can this actor do a range of roles or what?! I mean, he’s done every role (with depth) imaginable, and he ALWAYS manages to come out at the top. Pity he wasn’t even nominated for this movie! One feels sorry for his character Rashid when he finds out about Puro’s love for Ramchand...and that’s only because of him!

All of the other actors/actresses also performed brilliantly, but if I continue writing, it would become a review on PINJAR!

Also, art direction was TERRIFIC!! I also LOVED the songs...especially Haath Choote...so much Dard..

SHOLAY- this is one movie that always suceeds in receiving applause. Wonderfuly directed movie. The dialouges are ones that ’’baccha baccha jaanta hai’’ (every kid on the block knows them)...

The acting was SUPERB!! Dharamji- he made you cry from laughter... seriously... when he was pretending to be God...and commanding Basanti to marry Veeru as that is her ’’dharam’’ (duty)...lol. Also, I loved his over-acting when convincing Amitabh to ask for Basanti’s hand for him...and also, ofcourse the suicide scene!...’’Arre Mausi Se Kaun Shaadi Karega’’!

Big B- man, he was funny when he spoke the least...’’Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti’’.(What’s your name Basanti?) I totally love that one! But, his character dies in the end...alas...brought tears to one’s eyes...sniff sniff...such pain in his life

Hema Malini- ’’Yunki..’’.....Loved her!! Her dancing, her dialogues, her facial expressions...I simply cannot say any more...she was just too good!

Amjad Khan- Of course who can forget him? ’’Kitne Aadmi The?’’ (how many men were there?)...that’s become one of the most known quotes! And it’s just the way he said them...his deliverance was just superb...made you really hate him, yet appreciate his skill at the same time

Music was FAB. Dialogues as you can tell were GREAT. Direction was SUPER.

DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAAYENGE Aaah...this one was just...outstanding! this is one movie which you can watch again and again and again...especially the second half as that is where the fun actually starts!

Shahrukh- I personally think that this is his best performance...his character forced you to laugh, to cry, to feel his anger, to feel his pain...the dialogue delivery was first-rate...he had such funny one liners! ’’Bilkul Baap Pur Gayi Hai’’ (She’s inherited all the qualities from her father)...and also...when he sees Amrish Puri and offers him Lassi...but instead slips out...’’B-B-Beer?’’...funny!

Kajol- She’s my favourite actress! Her role demanded a girl to be naive and obedient, yet still be a bit ’rebellious’...She achieved that alright...her naivety and innocence and also stubborness is illustrated when she foolishly states that she will only allow Shahrukh to slip the engagement finger. Her rebellion is shown...the karva-chauth scene...etc etc

Amrish Puri- He really manages to scare you with those eyes...and then his strong and thundering voice...trembles by the thought...but then you also get to witness his soft side...him allowing kajol to go on the trip...and when he’s talking to Shahrukh during one of the kabooter scenes....But I loved him in the last scene of the movie...the various emotions he displayed....magnificant!

All the other actors/actresses also were first-rate...I’m just sorry for not having the space to talk about them. Music was fantastic. Direction FAB. Looked pretty real...it wasn’t exxagerated like K3G...

ANDAZ APNA APNA Who doesn’t love this movie? I still remain confused on why it didn’t hit it big...if anyone knows, please let me know. Acting was great...every actor acted his/her part to perfection!

Salman- Now, I am a big fan of his...yes, I know he’s a bit...wierd...but I luv him anyway!..His acting was soooooo refreshing! He was the ’stupid’ guy...calling Robert ’’Rabbit’’...messing up plans in the last scene ’’Amar, issmein to goli nahin hai’’ (Amar, there are no bullets in the gun!)...and I could go on and on...but I won’t

Amir- What a mad actor...he was the ’smart’ one...too smart for his own good shall we say...but...him being ’’Tillu’’...and then mixing julab (is it?) into Salman Khan’s food...and also his facial expressions are of a mention!

Paresh Rawal- wonderful as always....brilliant...I loved the scene where his two characters in double role go ’’Mein Teja Hun!’’...and then also the part about ’’Kiske Mamma Ki Gun?’’ (Who’s uncle’s gun?)...Wonderful

Shakti Kapoor-’’Dhakki Dhikki’’....the funniest I should say! He was the ’’sub-villain’’..the villain that was comical...steal anything and everything...his name...’’crime master gogo!’’...and then when Amir goes...’’Gogoji apka Ghagra’’...i just erupted into laughter then!

All the rest were great too...the heroines acted good...look outdated but you should expect that...this is not a ’modern’ movie anyhow....SONGS were real good.....ALL of them! Direction ofcourse was FAB.

GADAR- Another movie set in the partition era...this movie made me cry non-stop.

Sunny- ’’punjab da jatt...puttar punjab da’’...his performance was powerful to say the least. He successfully managed to convey all of his character’s raw emotions to the viewer...his presence on screen...wonderful...no words can express

Amisha- this was the movie that I thought she did okay in...her kaho na pyar hai was atrocious! But then again, it was only her first. She suited the role...looked really nice in the traditional Punjabi attire...

Amrish Puri- terrific as always...the ’villain’ of this movie...

Sunny’s mate- I feel soo bad...I’ve forgotten his name...even though he’s been in so many hindi movies and punjabi movies/shows!...But, he was funny as always...

Songs/Music was splendid...Shahbaash the late Anand Bakshi and Uttam Singh! Direction...kya class! (classic)

All in all...the above movies listed touched my heart...Pinjar and Gadar are obvious choices for the ’’touched my heart’’ as they brought about the raw emotion and passion experienced by those who survived the Partiton time.

DDLJ was a heart-warming romantic-comedy. It illustrated the hardships faced by young lovers with a dish-dash of comedy!

Andaz Apna Apna was just a classic comedy. Didn’t require you to think...just made you laugh till every muscle or bone in your body was aching!

Sholay in my opinion is the best movie done yet on ’’dosti’’ (friendship)...’’Yeh movie hum nahin bhoolenge’’....Of course this movie wasn’t without its funny moments!

These are movies which I saw and appreciated...these are my opinions...and therefore, a lot of you may disagree with some of the choices... Also, Sorry for having only 5 best hindi movies...I didn’t think that I would have enough spac
