Reel life vs Real life

Love don’t see things like looks, money, caste or religion;truth always wins; no matter how much a honest person suffers, in the end he will win over the corrupt ones;there is a God above who takes care of everything and makes sure that justice is done;after this life ends, other life begins; . These are few messages that are commonly narrated in Hindi Movies, and are part of’reel life’. But from what I’ve experienced, real world is totally opposite than this, and there have been few movies which has shown the’real life’ . Still this list is a mixture of movies showing’real’ as well as’reel’ life as mostly our movies follow a same track .

Did he or didn’t he said.

  1. Hey Ram

There will always be controversy whether’hey ram’ were last words of Gandhiji or not. Ironically the name of killer of Gandhiji was also Ram(Nathu Ram Godse).Whenever some one has tried to point a finger on Gandhi, there has been lot of controversy . That’s why this movie faced lot of opposition before its release. Although in the end the movie does favors the ideas of Gandhi. .It is story of a Hindu Brahmin who’s wife is raped and killed by Muslims during 1947 riots . This incident makes him an extremist, and he comes in contact with Hindu extremists, and their plan is to kill Mohan Das Gandhi due to his so called ’pseudo secularism’. Finally after few meetings with Gandhiji(he goes there to get the idea of murder planning), and the sacrifice of his Muslim friend makes him realize the principles of Gandhiji and he goes for confession but it’s too late, that day is 30 January 1948.

The movie tries to explain the mindset of’Hindu extremists’, what made them to take a step like assassinating the’Father of the Nation’.Here I will say that Kamal Hassan did in some ways compromised, it would have been much better if he had shown the movie from point of view of Godse and the hero hadn’t become pro Gandhi in the end. But still, he did fantastic job. Movie really makes one feel that it is story of India in 1947-48 and the scenes of riots and dilemma of Kamal while killing persons of other religion is well shown.

I pledge that.

  1. Teesri Kasam

It is one of the most sensitive and poetic movie I have seen.It gives a bitter truth message that things like sacrifices in love are only good for movies or in stories. And no wonder that the audience didn’t accepted the truth and movie is a big flop, which resulted in death of Shailendra. It’s story of Hiraman, a bullock cart driver. He is a simple and innocent rural person, away from all the lies of world.Once while carrying black-market goods, he is caught by police, so he takes oath never to carry black-market goods again.Second time he is beaten by 2 men while carrying bamboos, and he takes oath never to carry bamboo again.

Once he is asked to take a drama performer Hirabai to nearby village. Hirabhai is attracted to Hiraman due to his simplicity and innocence, and she invites him to stay with his drama company for few days.In the end of movie Hira asks her to leave drama company and live with him, but she refuses saying that love and marriage are not for her.Heartbroken Hiraman takes third pledge never to carry a woman from a drama Company again.

Along with the story the movie has exceptional performances from Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman, along with some of the all time BEST songs of Indian cinema sung keeping in mind the rural characters by the legend of Mukesh like Sajan re jhoot mat bolo, sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar, Duniya banane wale, and Pan Khaye Saiyan Humaro by Asha.

When the atmosphere favors combustion, even a matchbox is sufficient to create fire

  1. Maachis

Maachis is the story of youngsters pushed into militancy, by the high handed tactics of police and the machinations of politicians. The title Maachis(Matchbox) tries to present ow the embittered youth of the then strife torn state of Punjab were dormant, yet volatile, and could start a raging fire if provoked beyond their lively of endurance. Background of movie is the blue star operation and assassination of Indira Gandhi, which further resulted in killing of thousands of innocent people and resulted in the tragic incidences which even today haunts Punjab. This movie tries to look from the point of view of the wronged youth, what exactly resulted them to follow this step, what was their feelings like and what were the consequences . Gulzar has made a gem of movie and music director vishal has composed some great songs, including my favourite song of the 90’s -’Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale’.

If you are a Punjabi, this movie is a must to see.

Your Lips, My Voice

  1. Parhosan

Arguably the funniest movie ever made in history of Indian cinema.Sunil Dutt plays role of a 26 year old foolish kind of young man who believes that a man should be virgin till 25, enjoy family life till 50 and take’sanyas’ afterwards. He is always reading this line and he feel that as he is now 26, one year of his family life has been wasted. While living in with her aunt, he falls in love with the neighbor girl Saira Bano(windows of both houses face each other). But that girl loves music while Sunil’s singing is as good as voice of a donkey(No offence to donkeys here). So he takes help of his’Guru’ Kishore( a famous drama artist)and his fellow workers. The idea they develop is that Sunil will only do lip singing while kishore will sing the song from behind. This results in a rivalry between Sunil and Saira’s music teacher, Mehmood and all this makes us have a great laugh.

Sunil Dutt is at his best in parhosan and he has played the role of Bhola to perfection. And when Mehmood and Kishore Kumar are in a single movie, that movie is bound to be a gem. Each and every scene of this movie is exceptional .According to me, Kishore steals the show from others in his role of a singer who always have few loops of hairs on forehead and he is always eating pan with red fluid always flowing from one side of lips.

Thirst for true love and honesty in a hypocrite world

  1. Pyaasa

In this world there is nothing such as true love and everything can be bought with money and power. This is bitter truth of life and is shown in Pyaasa by Gurudutt. It is story of a poet whose poems no one accepts as he writes on hunger, while what sells in market is romance or love.He gets cheated by everyone, including his brothers and love. His poems gets popular when his death is announced although he is still alive. When he himself goes to attend a function of his poems and reveals his identity, he is beaten for being a cheater. Finally he leaves with a pro*titute, from whom he got true love.

Pyaasa would have been rated very high, have I seen it completely, I’ve seen it once and that too not complete, still this movie is that good that it made to the list.
