Guys I cannot wait any longer to submit this review. As the title says the review is my list of 10(actually its 15) best songs of 2004. I have listed these tracks without any order. Also at the end I have listed some of more numbers which are really good and deserve to be in this list. For the forthcoming songs which will be aired after my review is submitted, I am not taking them into account so my list is upto 12th December 2004. So here go the songs:
Note: I am selecting only one song from a particular movie so my list will not be restrained to only a couple of films it’s a general list containing all the types of numbers. Some of you might not agree with some(or all) songs so I would also like to know about ur opinion. There is no number one in my list all are equal
The list:
1.Laagi tumse man ki lagan-Paap
Ustad Rahaat Ali khan at his best. The song is soft romantic number and is beautifully sung by the singer. Starts off with slow tabla and then the singer takes over. Remember the song isn’t composed by Annu Malik. The song is picturised on
2.Main yahaan hoon-Veer Zarra
Well I am sure you might not have expected this song from VZ considering Tere Liye or Do pal. But somehow I found Lataji’s voice too old in those songs and so didn’t include them. On the other hand the way in which Udit Narayan has sang this song is just amazing. Right from the start when he sings Jaanam…he makes the song a step above all. Not to mention the music is awesome too.
3.Ye tara-Swades
I was confused between “Ye tara” and “Yun hi chala” but then “Ye tara” got my vote. A nice song which has a rhythm somewhat similar to Mitwa of Lagaan but the theme is different. Starts of, with once again Udit Narayan grabbing the mic. and singing the song at his best. I guess this time he should get an award. The voices of the young kids in the song are good to listen to. Overall a good number and Rahman has done a neat job composing it.
4.Saaki-Psychedelic Insomnia Mix-Musafir
U might be thinking a Musafir number in top 10 list? Yes in my opinion this one deserves to be in.
A great song sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. The voice of Sukhwinder and the music by Vishal, Shekhar do the trick here. The metal guitar creeds with the typical instruments make this song good to hear at high volumes.
5.One love-Rakht
First of its kind- A Hinglish track from Rakht. The original composition is by Blue-One Love and some work on it is done in the singing and writing department by Shaan. An awesome number be it in English or in Hinglish. Shaan’s voice seems as if he is the member of the boyband Blue.
6.Lakshya-Lakshya
Ah! How would I leave out this “inspirational” number? Sung exceedingly well by Shankar Mahadevan and the music by SEL is great too. The drums, guitar and Shankar’s voice make this song a prefect number.
7.Hum Hain Is pal-Kisna
Too early to be included? Not really this song is bound to be a hit. The music is really awesome in the song and Rahman deserves a pat on the back for this one. And once again we have Udit Narayan and Madhushree singing the song. Best part is the flute and slow steady progressing music.
8.Aao Na-Kyun Ho gaya Na
A romantic song from not so romantic movie. The song is sung by Udit Narayan and Sadhna Sargam. Frankly speaking more than the voices it’s the music that’s soothing to hear and the vocals at the start of the song. SEL have done a good job composing this one but the rest all songs of the album are mediocre.
9.Dhoom-(Tata Young)-Dhoom
The list would be incomplete without the inclusion of this song for a person who loves fast paced music and bikes. A great party number with beats and music that will make your pulse fast. Don’t listen to it when you are driving it will surely make you greedy for speed. Tata Young’s voice, well, doesn’t really blend to Pritam’s music but the music is what is the best part of the song.
10.Hum Tum-Hum Tum
Romantic song of the year is what this song deserves to be known as. An utter romantic number composed by the King’s of Romantic compositions-Jatin Lalit. Sung by Babul Supriyo and Alka Yagnik and the singer’s voice make the song even more romantic. The song didn’t get the appreciation it deserved. If it had been publicized more then the song would definitely have been more successful. An outstanding song. The best part is the concluding violin music.
O.K guys I have come to the end of my list of 10 best songs of 2004. Before I conclude my list there are some other songs which are worth mentioning and if the review title read 15 best then they would surely have been included in my list. Note that I have not left them out either. The songs mentioned in the above list and the following songs are equal.
11.Rang Deni-Dev
12.Kaho na kaho-Murder
13.Main Hoon Na-Main Hoon Na
14.Ye rishta-Meenaxi
- Paigaam-Lakeer
