Evergreen hits: 2004

PLEASE RATE! THANK YOU!

The year 2004 was one of the best for hindi music lovers. My list could be about 10 times long but I’m only allowed to put a few of them on display. The ones I’m putting are my favourites doesnt mean that others like paap, murder, and a ton others were not so good. They were equally good and might have been better than these.** but I like this ones.

The numbers do not mean the rating. Veer-zaara 1 and swades at 8, doesnt conclude that veerzaara is the best and swades ranks at number 8. They are just random numbers assigned. But these are surely SOME of the best songs of year 2004 according to me.

*1) Tere Liye(Veer Zaara) & Do Pal(Veer Zaara)

Music: Recreated by Sanjeev Kohli. Original By Madan Mohan*

Tere Liye:(Roop Kumar Rathod & Lata Mangeshkar)

Just by the playing of the piano ones gets the feeling that this is a likeable track. He does a beautiful job and the song is instantly likeable. Rathod complements Mangeshkar?s vocals quite well, and both strive well to convey the hope and yearning that love offers.

Do Pal:(Sonu Nigam & Lata Mangeshkar)

Nigam sounds brilliant and his voice completely reflects the emotions that Akhtar intended to convey with his https://lyrics. This song also has a very classic feel to it and should appeal any in search of a simple romantic tune.

*2) Aankhen bandh karke(Aitraaz) & Woh Tassavar ka(Aitraaz)

Music: Himesh Reshammiya*

Aankhen bandh karke:(Udit Narayan & Alka Yagnik)

Woh Tassavar Ka:(Udit Narayan & Alka Yagnik)

With these two numbers has Himesh crossing over into Nadeem-Shravan´s domain and is quite good at it. The situational songs featuring Akshay, Kareena and Priyanka will sound better with every hearing. The lyrics by Sameer are excellent and the singing by Alka, is excellent as she puts in a lot of feelings. The song will find favour with the mass and may make it to the charts.

*3) Dil Ne Jise Apnaa Kaha(Dil Ne Jise Apnaa Kaha) & Aao Na(Kyu Ho gaya na)

Music:(DNJAK) A.R. Rehman & H. Reshammiya(KHGN) Shankar? E? Loy*

Dil Ne Jise Apnaa Kaha:(Kamal Khan & Sujata Trivedi)

The tune is very simple and sweet, but you are instantly reminded of a semi-romantic tune from the 60s or 70s. Singing by Sujata Trivedi fooled me for a second because I was expecting Alka to step in, but she does an excellent job. Kamaal Khan also makes an adequate appearance on the track.

Aao Na:(Udit Narayan & Sadhna Sargam)

A positive thing to note here is Sadhna Sargam´s beautiful voice, which delicately caresses the tune. Udit Narayan accompanies her with a forgettable rendition. Javed Akhtar is a master of words when it comes to describing feelings and here he comes up with the goods.

*4) Dhoom Machale(Dhoom) & Shikdum Shikdum(Dhoom)

Music: Pritam*

Dhoom Machale:(Sunidhi Chauhan)

Pritam kick starts the soundtrack with the title piece, Dhoom Machaale. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan with vibrancy and vitality along with Pritam?s powerful and energetic composition, Dhoom Machaale makes for a nice dance floor piece. I personally love Pritam?s melody with the synthesizer in the beginning, which was rehashed throughout the piece with the flute.

Shikdum Shikdum:(Shaan & Shreya Ghoshal)

Shikdum, is by far the best song that Pritam has to offer.Shaan & Shreya switch from the seductive mode to the playful mode. Their on-audio chemistry is superb and Pritam alters their vocals just enough to raise the enjoyment level of this number. His light-hearted composition and very catchy melody allow for Shaan and Shreya to let their vocals play together beautifully.

*5) Main Hoon Na(Main Hoon Na) & Tumhe Jo Maine Dehkha( Main Hoon Na)

Music: Anu Mailk*

Main Hoon Na:(Sonu Nigam & Shreya Ghoshal)

Title track’Main Hoon Naa’ has everything going in its favor. Sonu Nigam is simply excellent while carrying with him the super form he was in 2003 whereas Shreya Goshal gives good support in this beautifully written song by Javed Akhtar. A definite hit all the way!

Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha:(Abhijeet & Shreya Ghoshal)

The song is a good Anu Malik number, which has the opportunity to storm the charts, thanks to a good composition and Abhijeet?s wonderful vocals. The numero uno female singer right now, Shreya Ghoshal compliments Abhijeet perfectly once again showing that she can do more than soft love songs.

*6) Saaki Saaki(Musafir) & Mujhe Tumse Muhobat(Tumsa Nahin Dekha)

Music:(Musafir) Anand Raj Anand(Tumsa Nahin Deka) Nadeem Shravan*

Saaki Saaki:(Sukhwinder Singh & Sunidhi Chauhan)

Saaki’ by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan is a follow-up to’ Ishq Samundar’ from Kaante and appears at the end of the album.

Mujhe Tumse Muhobbat:(Shaan & Shreya Ghoshal)

From the opening violin performance to the thundering close, Nadeem-Shravan were on a mission to show their versatility that has been masked by their repetitiveness. Shreya?s voice is slightly echoed, which makes for a nice effect.

*7) Maine Dil Se kaha(Rog) & Hum Hai is pal yaha(Kisna)

Music:(Rog) M.M. Krem(Kisna) A.R.Rehman*

Maine Dil Se Kaha:(K.K.)

The longing and desire of the male character is expressed beautifully in the opening number, ’Maine Dil Se Kaha’. Listening to K.K.´s singing is like listening to a flute. It calls out bringing with it the deep messages of the heart.

Hum Hai Is pal yaha:(Udit Narayan & Madhushree)

Those who are accustomed to Rahman?s style of music can tell right away that Hum Hai Iss Pal Yahan is composed by Rahman. this piece is vintage Rahman! Setting the mood right away with the chirping of the birds that slowly allows for the flute and piano to infiltrate the piece, beautifully complimenting Udit Narayan and Madhushree.

*8) Yuhi Chala Chal(Swades) & Ahista Ahista(Swades)

Music: A.R.Rehman*

Yuhi Chala Chal:(Udit Narayan & Hari Haran)

As situational as?Yun Hi Chala Chal? may sound to an average day listener there is something added to it that makes Rahman the irresistible composer that he is. It is the luminously infectious guitar backdrop that sets your fingers tapping.

Ahista Ahista:(Udit Narayan & Sadhna Sargam)

Vintage Rehman! Though an album like this may have every other song being every other person?s favorites, my personal one is Udit Narayan and Sadhna Sargam?s?Ahista Ahista? - a dauntingly slow melodically orchestrated duet which is immersed in a very appealing lyrically superb overtone.

*9) Khoya Khoya(Shabd) & Sholon Si(Shabd)

Music: Vishal-Shekhar*

Khoya Khoya:(Sonu Nigam & Sunidhi Chauhan)

What makes the songs work is how well the interludes complement not only the mood but the orchestration. Sonu Nigam is perfect and the best he has been in recent soundtracks. The punch is packed when the title of the track kicks in and the jazz like feel of the song settles in.

Sholon Si:(Vishal Dadlani & Sunidhi Chauhan)

Dadlani is more than suitable for the mood that the song brings out. Upbeat, laced with your catchy Latin beats and chorus intervals(vamos a la playa), the song catches the listener right away even though it starts off with the theme orchestration and leaves the impression that the song will be a regular romantic track. Sunidhi Chauhan is perfectly toned.

Thank you for reading!
