Instead of 10, I am choosing my five, being away from India and listening little of our music, these are the five songs I liked most, there are many more though:)
Kajra re Kajra re
Everything is great here, music by deadly trio of S-E-L, silky voice of
Alisha(she showed us what range she has got in her arsenal) and beautiful
lyrics by Gulzar as ever even in a so called item number, he made it an anthem for Indians for 2005
Managl mangal
Listening is believing, you have to listen to this number to
realize what a genious AR rehman is, no musician in recent memory has
composed a folk song like this, his detractors should bite their words when they say
he is highly westernized, He can make music with Dholaks and Harmonium too, he proved it times and again.remember Zubaida .
Dus Bahane Karke
A great foot tapping tune by very promising duo of Vishal -Shekhar,
they are great respite from Reshmiya type musicians/copy cats.
Azaadi Azaadi
What a great poetic song by AR and the way he rendered it is awesome,
only he can do this, it will pump you with patriotic feeling, a nationality complex which we Indians lack badly.’BANDE MAATRAM’.
Piyu Bole
This song proves What a lovely voice Shreya ghosal has got and if you have a voice like her, you not need so many intsruments around, this song has got very few instruments in it, its the voice and melody which carries this song, I believe Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chuahan are the two best things happened to Indian music of late, they are the blessings and future of Indian music. Had RD been around, he would have been more than happy to see these ladies singing, absolute devine.
Tauba Tauba
What a number, absolutely wonderful, all the singers did justice to this song but hats off to Sunidhi, only she can match the tempo set by Sonu, it reminds Kishore-Asha Bhosle pair, I guess only Asha had a chance against someone like Kishore, All the other female co-singers of Kishore were dominant by him
