Rishtey Mein To Hum Tumhare Baap Lagte Hain.

Amitabh Bachan is the only actor who can proudly usethe title line against any present actor of the Indian Film industry. He is the only actor who has done all kinds of roles in the past and has stood the test of time thus ruling the film industry for nearly three decades. Without wasting further time, I would like to present you with his top ten movies which is strictly my opinion. Hold your breath guys, here it goes:

  1. Deewar

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, and Neetu Singh.

Director: Yash Yopra.

Music Director: R.D. Burman.

Synopsis: In this movie Amitabh plays the character of Vijay who had experienced the bitterness of life. He carried the stigma of his father’s indiscretion, that could not be washed as it was tatooed on his hand (Mera Baap Chor Hai). Vijay could not forget his life on footpath and the nights of starvation and poverty. The abuses slung at his mother remained imprinted in his heart and he chooses the wrong path of life(smuggling) to make money. His other brother Ravi played by Shashi Kapoor becomes a police officer and that’s when a wall(deewar) is built among the two brothers. The best dialogue of the movie:

Amitabh: Aaj mere paas bangla hai, gaadi hai, paise

hai, tumhare paas kya hai.

Shashi Kapoor: Mere pass mai hai.

9.      Don

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Zeenat Aman, Pran, and

Helen.

Director: Chandra Barot.

Music Director: Kalyan Ji, Anand Ji.

Synopsis: Are Deewano, Mujhe pehchano, kahan se aaya, main hu kaun. Yes, it was anotherbockbuster by Amitabh Bachan. Don(Amitabh Bachan) is killed in an

encounter with police and in order to capture his gang, police finds a look alike of Don, Bhola, (Amitabh Bachan) and they train him to join his gang and inform police about all their activities. There in the gang Bhola encounters Roma(Zeenat Aman) and the drama begins because Roma wanted to kill the original Don.

8.          Kaala Pathar

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrugan

Sinha, Neetu Singh, Raakhi & Parveen Babi.

Director: Yash Yopra.

Synopsis: Amitabh plays the character of a young naval officer who was court martialed because he once left hundreds of people dying on a ship caught in storm to save his life. He is hated by everyone including his Dad for his cowardness. He then starts working in a mine where workers are treated so badly and he the one always willing to help them.  There he meets Ravi(a young engineer played by Shashi Kapoor) and Mangal (Shatrugan Sinha) and together they fight a lost battle of rescuing people from a mine that will soon be flooded. Vijay comes victorious and wins the respect of his parents again. A heart touching film made brilliant by the dialogues of Shatrughan Sinha.

Shatrughan: Are meri gulshan ki bulbul, Mangal ka

khoon koi lemon soda nahin hai jo vijay jaise pongey

pongey use pee jaaengey.

  1.            Kabhi Kabhi

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Rakhi, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and Neetu Singh.

Director: Yash Yopra.

Synopsis: This is a story of a poet Amit(Amitabh) and the beautiful Pooja (Rakhi). They visualize a perfect future together. However, Pooja agrees to the arranged marriage with Vijay(Shashi Kapoor). Amit, meanwhile, tries to forget Pooja and marries Anjali. After several years, Pooja and Vijay’s son Vicky(Rishi Kapoor) and Anjali’s daughter Pinky(Neetu Singh) come together, and how a chain of events bring together old lovers as friends after 20 years, is Kabhi Kabhi.

6.           Laawaris

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Zeenat Aman, Ranjeet, and Amjad Khan.

Director: Parkash Mehra.

Music Director: Kalyan Ji Anand Ji.

Synopsis: Amitabh plays the role of a bastard(sorry, couldn’t find an appropriate english term for it) in this movie. He is raised by a drunkard and is actually an illegitimate child of an industralialist(Amjad Khan) and a singer(Rakhi). He finds out that he is a lawaris(bastard) and he hates himself and his parents who left him to live. How he finds out his parents is the heart of the story. A must see film decorated with some beautiful songs.

5.                Mard

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Amrita Singh, Dara Singh, Prem Chopra.

Director: Anil Nagrath, Pammi Varma.

Synopsis: I can see raised eyebrows alreasdy. But Mard happens to be my favourite movie. I was a kid and I remember humming the song, ’’Mard Taangey Waala, Main hoon Mard Taangey Waala, Mujhe Dushman Kya Marega, Mera Dost Upar Waala’’. It was after this movie that I started loving riding a tanga(a cart driven by a horse).

4.              Sharabi

Starring: Amitabh Bachan, Jaya Prada, Ranjeet, Pran, Om Prakash.

Director:Parkash Mehra.

Synopsis: Inteha Ho gayi, Intezaar Ki. Aayi Na Kush Khabar mere yaar ki. Hai Humein yeh yakeen, Bewafa wo nahi, phir wajah kya huyi, intezaar ki. I hereby declare that on one has played the role of a drunkard the way Amitabh did in this movie. Shahrukh Khan was close in Devdas but Amitabh had a legacy of his own. Other legendary movie by a legendary actor. Its about a father(Pran) for whom the most important thing in the world is his money and status. Deprived of parental love(Amitabh playing Vicky) becomes an alcoholic. He falls in love with a dancer Jaya Bhaduri and his father expectedly disapproves of it. Vicky(Amitabh) leaves home and then his dad realises his mistakes. A brilliant movie is all I can say.
