Compiling a list of top 10 Amitabh movies is as difficult as listing down the top 10 movies of all time. Amitabh also widely known as The Big B is unarguably the Badshah of Bollywood and is still going strong.
Well, here goes my list of the top 10 Amitabh movies, not in any particular order :-
1) Amar Akbar Anthony :
This is one of my favourite movies of all times and I have lost count on the number of times I have seen it. Although being a multi starrer , it’s the Big B all the way who manages to steal the show. Amitabh is at his comic best in this award winning film ( Amitabh got a filmfare for this movie).
2) Deewar :
Deewar is probably Amitabh’s best role to date. The role was tailor made for him and he did it superbly. Amitabh went on to win a filmfare award for this one as well.
3) Don :
Another of his award winning roles, Don was one of the best of the many double-role movies that he acted in. He played both the roles of an innocent bhaiyya and an underworld don to perfection and this movie went on to become one of the biggest hits of that era.
4) Zanjeer :
This was the movie that gave him the superstar status and the angry young man image. There was no looking back after this one and this was the first in the series of the many prakash mehra-amitabh superhits.
5) Abhimaan :
Hrishikesh Mukerjee was another director who managed to extract the best out of the Big B. This was the best of the many films that he did with Hrishi Da.
6) Satte Pe Satta :
A thoroughly enjoyable fare where he again plays a double role. The first half is a blast although the script is direclty lifted from ’’Seven Brides For Seven Bridegrooms’’.
7) Sharaabi :
Amitabh has probably been the best to act as a drunkard. In this movie, he actually gets to act as a drunkard for most part of the movie and he does it in style. A superb performance.
8) Agneepath :
Again, one of my all time favourites , this is one hell of a movie. Amitabh is just out of this world in this one. He won a national award for Agneepath and he thoroughly deserved it.
9) Aahkri Raasta :
I am not sure whether this was a super-hit but in my opinion this is Amitabh’s best role as an inspector. It is based on a father-son relationship ( both roles being potrayed by the Big B himself). A great movie!
10) Sholay :
Last but not the least, who can forget the biggest hit of all time. I have watched this movie a zillion times and I still enjoy watching. Amitabh is at his usual best and so r the rest of the cast. I dont need to tell anything more abt this movie since anybody having even a slight interest in bollywood movies might have seen this movie.
Well, that was my list of some of his greatest movies. There are ofcourse many more and I do hope that he still continues to come up with great performances in the movies to come.
