Well I would like to thank MS too for including this topic and after a long time I am writing a review with so much enthusiasm...
I read Tina Sris review and though most of her choices had good reasons to be in the list I have some same but some different names simply because of two reasons...
1.She had many names from iqbal and yahaan and as I have watched neither cant comment
2.2005 was considered a year of comedies and yet her top ten didnt have a single comedy performance...
i wont give them rankings they are all brilliant performances and very different from each other..
1.AMITABH BACHCHAN(Sarkar, Kajra Re).
Well, 2005 was the BIG Bs year without a shred of doubt...From delivering hits at the box office, to making a return on the small screen, to selling all products ranging from a cold drink to a car, and to making the whole nation anxious by his minor surgery...
Well BIG B was seen in 7 films this year...4 were block busters..However I liked him best in SARKAR....In Sarkar BIG B though not as good as the original GODFATHER(Marlon Brando) still pulls out a stellar performance....Like Tina Sri even I felt he over acted in BLACK and I am not particularly fond of this movie..The second highlight for me in this year as far as Amitabh was concerned was to see him shaking a leg at Kajra with two 30 year olds and giving them a run for their money...
2..AKSHAY KUMAR(Garam Masala, Deewane Hue Paagal)
This was the year when Akki finally after 10 years made it to the same elite league as KHANS...He had 5 releases this year and 3 were hits...Though it is indeed baffling why deewane hue failed at the box-office and waqt became a hit..Anyways continuing the trend from Khaki and Mujhse Shadi Karogi , this year each movie in which AKKI featured had him in a role which demanded some comedy from him...And he does a stellar job in all the films...Even in the very unheard of flick INSAAN its AKKIs comedy which is the saving grace...
For me DEEWANE HUE was his best performance...I almost fell down from my chair laughing at some of his lines and his expressions....
3..KAY KAY MENON(SARKAR).
A very under-rated actor but this year saw him finally making a name for himself with knock out performances in SARKAR and HKA..Though I havent watched HKA I have heard he does an amazing job in the movie..as far as SAKAR is concerned his character according to me is the most complex in the film and after watching the film I cant help but feel that no other actor could have done justice to that role...He is a as good as the BIG B-AB jr. father son duo....
4..BABY RUCHA(EK AJNABEE), AYESHA KAPOOR(BLACK).
Well all the child artistes who featured in movies this year did a fine job...Shweta Prasad, of course...I heard even the kids in Vaah life ho to aisi are adorable...For me BABY RUCHA in EK AJNABEE and AYESHA KAPOOR in BLACK stand out as both of them had to match up to the BIG B himself..And well both of them do a stellar job..One has to mouth dialogues while the other has to let the expressions do the talking..And well AMITABH himself has been highly impressed by both these little performers...
5..ANIL KAPOOR, SALMAN KHAN(NO ENTRY).
Well, the biggest hit of the year NO ENTRY had two performances which stood out..ANIL KAPOOR is almost in every frame and the veteran actor proves why he is considered such a fine actor...He is brilliant in the movie...But to me the highlight is SALLU..though he does a extended sp. appearance in the movie, he is the one who creates all the chaos in the movie...And you cant expect any other actor than SALMAN to deliver dialogues like tum tennis court jao, badminton court jao, food court jao, but wo wale court mat jao.
6..ABHISHEK BACHCHAN(SARKAR, Dus Bahane, RIght here Right Now)
If his DAD was the no.1 star of the year he was certainly a close NO.2...He had four hits in this year but most importantly this year turned him into a phenomenon...I mean now when he makes an appearance on the screen, the audience reaction is something else..maybe that was what their reaction was when his DAD used to appear on the Screen 25 years ago...He was mind-blowing in SARKAR, at some places I felt better than AMITABH...He was OK in BNB, looked good in DUS, is rocking the nation with his rap in BLUFFMASTER..havent watched it yet...This year also confirmed his position as the most sought after guy in the industry and credit must be given to his pelvic thrusting act in Dus bahane and his cute rapping in Right here Right Now..
7..TOBY STEPHENS(MANGAL PANDEY) ANTONIA BERNATH(KISNA).
This year had two biggies in which british actors had important roles to play and both of them need a mention..To me MANGAL PANDEY was not worth the wait and hype but overall it was not that bad a movie as critics made it to be..These are my views..TOBY STEPHENS as a British officer really shone and matched AAMIR KHAN in all their scenes together...His dialogue delivery in Hindi was also flawless...
As far as KISNA goes, the real hero of the film is the British actress Antonia Bernath. She handles the difficult role with amazing grace, displaying the various emotions with ease. Her performance can be best described in one word – outstanding!
My other in the top ten would include...
SAIF, VIDYA(PARINEETA) and SANJAY SURI(MY BROTHER NIKHIL) and Tina Sri has already written about their performances and I dont feel I would like to add much..
I must have missed out on some great performances, but well I have not watched each and every movie released, maybe just 30 % of the movies released
some others worth a mention are
RAJPAL YADAV(WAQT, MAIN MERI PATNI AUR WOH)
AJAI DEVGAN(KAAL, APHARAN)
JUHI CHAWLA(MBN)
AYESHA TAKIA(SNT)
EMRAAN HASHMI, KUNAL KHEMU(KALYUG)
