Purely my choice !!!

I think, this is a very flexible topic, one could include songs, dialogues, moments , mute scenes whatever.

My ten choices (not necessarily in order) are going to be a mix of all the above....so here I go.

1. pagdi sambhal song scene- Legend of Bhagat Singh

Sukhdev and friends are ready with stones for pelting and are waiting for the function to start. After some poor farmers come on stage and put their pagadi on the feet of the British soldiers, a hand picks up the pagadi and a voice is heard in slow motion. ’’Tera lutt na jaaye maaan ... oyee.. jetta pagadi sambhal... ek baar oye.’’ The face is that of a young sardar with extremely piercing eyes and a magnetic personality.Ajay Devgan just stole my heart in this scene. The introduction scene of Bhagat singh , A scene to watch out for .

2. Nargis outside Sukhi Lala’s house all drenched in rain - Mother India A heart rending memorable scene.

Nargis as Radha wants Sukhi lala’s help. She is outside his house, begging for help, all drenched in rain and mud and Sukhi Lala starts praising her physical beauty and gives her an option of selling herself. A brilliant piece of acting by Nargis who feels helpless but doesnt give in to him.

3. Charlie chaplin scene - Mr India

Seema and Jugal have dressed up as Charlie and his friend and are in the casino. Here oblivious of the fact that Mr India is helping them , they are winning all games and having a blast. I love the entire episode and the scenes where Sridevi is about to throw the feathered arrow. The arrow flies by itself and hits the correct target at which Sri and the boy get hyper and start screaming and demanding money.

Also the scene where Sridevi says number ’’saat’’ and the small ball starts flying and places itself correctly in the slot is equally funny. What follows later is Mr India bashing all the goons, some more screams and total chaos.

4. English is a very phunny language scene - Namak Halal

Arjun singh vald bheem singh vald dashrat singh is being interviewed by Ranjeet.

In his attempt to impress him with English Amitabh says some hilarious things like ’’english is a very phunny language’’

’’ where Bhaeran becomes Bhairav ’’

And later he narrates a big cricket commentary about ultimatums, Wasim baari and Wasim raja and drives Ranjeet crazy. Its a must see scene .. lol

5. Gabbar introduction scene - Sholay

Need I say anything on this ? Bacha bacha yeh scene jaanta hoga.. lol

6. yeh paise to gal-chuke hain scene - Maine pyaar kiya -.

All Alok nath fans, dont hate me.. lol, I really find this scene qualifying in my top 10.

Prem a.ka. sallu, has toiled day and night and made 2000 rupees and on the d-day gets beaten up by Jeevan and all his money becomes wet and dirty.

Later Alok Nath taunts Prem that how can he support his daughter Suman with such torn notes. What follows is Suman crying and begging, Alok not relenting and Prem announcing he will start over, and come back after a month.

Quite an emotional scene. As an eight standard school girl, I just burst into tears at this one. LOL

7. Kachara scene - Lagaan

Kachra who is lowcaste and handicapped is always shunned by all the villagers. They cant imagine how Kachra , of all people will help them win the match. Let alone play with him , they dont even want to touch him.

Bhuvan is the only one who stands up for him. He convinces the villagers that the same , untouchable, invalid hands will help them win the match. On hearing this, Kachra breaks down and Bhuvan consoles him.

Very touching scene depicting the cruel caste discrimination of our Indian society

8. Kamal, dimple and Rishi sitting on the beach - Saagar

Rishi and Dimple find out that Kamal had been joking about his feelings for Dimple and they all start laughing.

Kamal also laughs and suddenly tears well up his eyes and wipes them with his hands and says ’’haste haste, aasu agaye’’.His feelings for Dimple are real, but he has to pretend its not. The whole scene is very well enacted by the Brilliant Kamal, the one and only.

9. Gurudutt and Madhubala, theatre scene - Mr and Mrs 55

The song ’’idhar tum hasin hu, udhar dil jawan hai’’ is a classic and the lovers look so much in love in the entire song.

I also like the theatre scene where Madhu bala mistakes Guru dutt for the tennis champion and in the dark, mutters some lovey-dovey things to him and puts her head on his shoulders and sighs. Gurudutt, though dazed remains silent.

Later when the lights are on, she realizes it not the tennis guy but someone else, and starts crying loudly. The audience gets angry with Guru dutt and start yelling at him. Its a superb scene, if anyone remembers.

10. Saif - hotel scene - Dil Chahta hai

My friend Rachna, another MS member told me about this scene. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had to include this one in the list.

A room full of clothes and things thrown around has Saif’s voice groaning and moaning, making your imagination run wild. Later it dawns that Saif has actually been robbed (by his girl friend Chirstein) and that he was shouting in Agony and not in Ecstacy. LOL

I end my review here, phew was a long one.. :)
