How can we have the 10 worst music directors? Music is supposed to be nice, pleasing and hummable.Music directors need to keep up the nice music or else, who will buy their cassettes, CDs or who will download these songs, more precisely? So each music director will churn out good songs and bad songs. Well among these music directors, we have those who still produce good and above average songs even if they are working with a bad director.
These 10 Worst Music Directors are those who are good but lazy.
1.Sanjeev-Darshan -Sons of famous Shravan from Nadeem-Shravan Duo. These boys did not struggle at all to get into the industry. One learned the keyboard(which everyone knows these days) and the other one played the guitar. So there you go. Famous Dad-one keyboard-one guitar.tomorrow you are a music director and signing up films as Sanjeev-Darshan.95% of the songs have been plagiarized from Middle-East artists.( http://www.iespana.es/i2fs/). In terms of their quality of their music, nothing. They never tried by themselves and this is what makes them worst here.
Hit songs: Xcuse Me(Style), Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hain Title Song.
These brothers are so bad that they rely mostly on arrangers. Final Verdict: 0.1/10
2.Viju Shah-Yes we all know that he did Mohra and had hits like ‘Tu cheez badhi hai Mast’ and ‘Subhah Se Lekar Shaam Tak’. Viju is not a bad music director. He gave us hits in Gupt and Tere Mere Sapne.Well Viju is like a season. He may excel when given the opportunity but he can also give bad songs like in ‘Aar Ya Paar’ andBeti No.1. Viju likes using electronics in his songs. When the tune is bad and he infuses electronics to the song, you guess the outcome! And Viju also needs to use some more Indian instruments in his songs. Will only be remembered for: ‘Saat Samundar’-Vishwaatmaa, ‘Kuch Mere Dil Ne Kaha’- Tere Mere Sapne, ‘Badi Mushkhil Hain’- Gupt.
Final Verdict: 4.5/10
3.Rajesh Roshan-Yes he gave us ‘Kaho. Naa Pyar Hain’, ‘Koyla’ and recently ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. But we all know that Rajesh keep the best for bhaiyya Rakesh! I mean thats normal. Anyway, if you don’t give your brother the nice and solid hits, what kind of bhaiyaa are you?
Rajesh Roshan is also good at plagiarizing but the media doesn’t care about him because the media accuses only Anu Malik for plagiarising. In the 90s, Roshan plagiarized a couple of tunes. But he is so bad at even plagiarizing that the song got worst and no-one knew that it was a rip-off. Then our favourite Anu Malik plagairized the same song and the song was a hit and then the media showed the finger to .yes Anu only! The song was in Ishq, ‘Need Churayi Meri’. Hopefully he had ‘Julie’ to express himself. Will only be remembered for; ‘Dekha Tujhe To’- Koyla, ‘Jab Koi Baad’ –Jurm, ‘Na Tum Jano Na Hum’- Kaho Naa pyar Hain and Julie songs. Final Verdict: 3/10
4.RaamLaxman -Unfortunately this guy has a lot of potential but he did most of his films in non-hindi and was a king there. However he was always assisted by Uttam Singh in hindi films. Raam-Laxman was a duo before. He was the protege of the Rajshri. So he kept his best for the Rajshri and gave subsequent hits like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aaapke Hain Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hain. Outside the Rajshri banner, it was only a few solid hits like ‘Pattar Ke Phool’. All his other films had only one good song. He couldn’t also understand the pulse in Film Music and delivered half-baked songs throughout his career. Will only be remembered for; ‘Aate jaate’- Maine Pyar Kiya, ‘Pehla pehla pyar’- Hum Aaapke Hain Kaun, ‘Sajna tere Bina kya jeena’- Pattar Ke Phool. Final Verdict: 3/10
5.Ravindra Jain -We all know him as the blind music director. No offence to him here. But considering the commitments of a music director, Ravindra Jain failed. But hats off to him for showing the world his talent. He did not understand how the film music worked. His songs had melody, good music and nice lyrics(he was also writing his own lyrics). But one or two hits over a decade is not enough. A music director should be able to produce a disco song and also a patriotic song. He/She should be able to deliver hits consistently. But he couldn’t cope with the new trends. But I still want to assert that I greatly admire him for his courage despite being blind. Will only be remembered for: ‘Sun Saiba Sun’- Ram Teri Ganga Maili, ‘Der Ne Ho Jaye’Main Hoon Khushrang Henna’ -Henna, ‘Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyara’ -Chitchor. Final Verdict: 3.5/10
The following music directors are NOT BAD AND ARE VERY TALENTED. But they were releasing too many albums and couldn’t produce good songs when needed in certain films. Some call them greedy directors who were more interested in the money. These people are gifted. Surprisingly these music directors also gave us memorable hits.
6. Usha Khanna- One and only female music director. Hats Off. Started in the 50s and last film was Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya. However some of her songs were without tunes and no melody. You couldn’t even sing the song. It was so bad and orchestration were terrible. Will be remembered for:Shayad Meri- Souten, Dil Deke Dekho, Aap No Aise Na The. Final Verdict: 5/10
7. Laxmikant-Pyarelal- one of the best music directors we ever had. They were so popular and much in demand and signed around 30 films in 1988. However, they also produced horrible songs. Their horrible songs were noisy, big orchestra with lots of violin only and no melody. A complete no-no. Unfortunate stars who had to dance on their songs were Mithun and Jackie Shroff. Unfortunate singers who had to wake up early to do the live recording were Shabbir Kumar, Mohd Aziz and Kavita Krishnamurthy! Will be remembered only for their hits. Lucky! So long career.Final Verdict: 8/10
8.Nadeem-Shravan are good but due to mass production of songs, they also delivered very bad songs. Some of their songs can be without melody with just Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. They are true talents and songs are melodious. Will be remembered for only their hits. Lucky again! Final Verdict: 6.5/10
9.Anand-Milindare equally very good but again due to more than 25 films per year, they gave us so many cheap songs. Quality songs became so rare from them. Will be remembered for cheap songs for Govinda only! Sorry to all Govinda Fans.Final Verdict: 5/10
10. Aadesh Shrivastavaa- a very talented and promising music director. But he failed to understand the dynamics of hindi music. Songs were too heavy with music and melody. Overall good. Need to improve so much. Will be remembered for Say Shava Shava K3G. Final Verdict: 3/10
That’s all about these music directors. I don’t like saying that they are the worst. They are not. They tried to give us music. Some did it well and other did bad(except for Sanjeev-Darshan)
Anu Malik and Bappi Lahiri were not included even though they plagiarized so many tunes because they are versatile. Please check out my review on the ‘Ten Best Music Directors’ coming soon to know why. We need music directors who can give us melody and produce all types of songs and use the voices of talented singers fairly and thus give us a nice song which will enchant our life. Music is life and please treat it with utmost care.
