A R Rahman at his worst

Hi guys,

Read through Suresh’s review. somehow, certain excellent songs/albums of ARR(I personally blive the box office status of a movie/music album has nothing to do with the quality of music.) feature in the worst list of Suresh. I wish to give my list of ARR’s worst songs. before that, I would like to add a these remarks.

The reference of Anbe sugama as one of ARR’s bad compositions really takes me by surprice. The above stated song, is composed in a 7 beat cycle and is in the liltingly melodious raag sahaana. I cant quite recollect any other song in this raag in the recent past. The looping base line which sinks in with Sadhana and sreenivas’s voice takes you to a plane of sheer bliss and for those who are extremely minute about the orchestration of songs, when the line’vaazhkai or vattam pol’ comes for the second time. the piano actually plays a minor chord which adds so much of impact to the song. and great singing by sreeni and saadhana. Overall, I would say ONE OF ARR’s BEST Melodies.

Anotherone reference is Udhaya. Oh man! dont say that! The title song of Udhaya is my ALL time favourite. the song is so captivating that I have broken into tears at times when I hear the acoustic guitar interlude. What a great singing effort this one is. Hariharan at his best complemented by saadhana in the best possible way. Its sad that the movie dint release/do well. Its easly one of those songs in which ARR shows his immense prowess in dealing with complex carnatic/hindustani raags and the implementation is a masterpiece.

Having said that I would like to add my list of ARR’s worst tamil songs.(in descending order)

10) Dolna .(Parasuram) Well, hariharan for this song? If ARR doesnt have the time he can as well not compose turkeys like this!

9)Kuluvalille. Earnest request to all singers. The tamil singers only cant sing the malayalized lyrics well(the vice versa is not true though!) Making the hapless Udit narayan to sing this’kuluvalille.’ assault is a bit too much to digest. Rajni and ARR are like north and south pole. please dont try bringing them face to face.

8)Baba Kichu. Oh my gawd! this song sounds like the worst compositions of SA Rajkumar. no justifications for this one ARR. U need to think about what you are churning out in the name of music nowadays.

7)Anjanam vecha kannallo.(Udhaya) Malayalam lyrics? S Janaki sounds as if she is suffering from high fever and shivering. and SPB sir. U are a great singer. this is an earnest request from an ardent fan of urs. PLEASE RETIRE! ARR? whats happening? u awake?

6)Maaro Maaro. Goli maaro! pathetic! ARR thinks he composed something like’they dont really care about us’? Looks like he doesnt really care about the audience!

5)Sa re ga me(?). Back street boys go desi? what a disaster. Sounds like ARR just woke up from his sleep, yawned and thought it was a great tune. this song makes me puke!

4)karisa tharisal .(or something like that.) This is the song from the movie taajmahal. Well, I have nothing much to write about it. It sounds like a tune made by a drunken pianist. The chromatic changes adds to the agony. whats wrong with u ARR here?

3)ey ey enna aachu. When did ARR start thinking therz immense scope for RAP? This one sounds like a 6th standard student learning the multiplication table. Pathetic.pathetic.

2)jana gana mana. YUVA. Okay guys if the songs are doing really well, I think the entire audience should go get our heads examined. singing single notes supported by some heady drumming and abstratct star trek sounds is what this song is. Now if thats music then please excuse me, may be my idea of music is wrong. but then What I think as my music is way saner than jana gana mana. Tagore da. I am sorry for u!

1)Bling linga ding(kama kama). Now now! things cant get any worse now! ARR has finally succeeded in proving point! Blaaaaze? Desi Rapper.I duno what on earth makes ARR stick to this good for nothing chap. he sounds suffocated and extremely irritating. if thats not enough, u have Vasundhara das addinf to the grief. U will feel like u have just come out of a Mithun chakraborty movie after listening to this song. oh wait. I dont want to call this one a song.Ok I shall call this an’attempted song!’

Now, u can let me know ur comments! Vodka.
