All power and no play

’’Tennis’’ once upon a time was a game which was known for its rally, the knack of its players, and their stamina for it involved long hours of play.

Unfortunately Tennis today has merely turned into a game of power and millions of dollars. It not only fetches its players name, fame and money...it fetches more money in the way of endorsements. Where have all those players of the wonderful game called tennis gone?

Do we today enjoy the rallying that tennis is always known for? I think not. How otherwise would Goran Ivanisevic becomes the wimbledon champion?

Lets all remember players of the sport like..Stefan Edberg, Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander, John McEnroe, and others.(I watched them play). I think the game started to change from the times of Bjorg Borg, taken further by Boris Becker, and then we saw an invasion of players who would win a match just by the virtue of the power of their serves and not how they return serve.

There were times when I watched the Wimbledon and I would be glued to the television. Today I am content with reading in the newspapers the following morning who the winner is.

If one keenly watches the sport on television, most of you would agree with me if I said that the duration of time for which the heads turn is today much..much shorter than before. The reason..A Powerful serve and no return. A point won..

I sincerely hope that Tennis becomes once again the game of rallying and just not of powerful serves and un-returnable serves. Let the followers of the game once again enjoy those long rallies and hope the best guy win.
