A very good remake of a classic

I read the reviews by others and was quite surprised that they did not like the movie. I have watched 3 out of 5 TCM movies made so far, and from what I learned about the remaining 2, I am glad I did not watch them. The original one (1974) was an instant classic and made a big star out of director Tobe Hooper, who went on to make another classic in Poltergeist. And even the new TCM is the scariest movie I have seen in recent times (and I am a big horror movies fan). It was a really good remake of the original movie and at times, even scarier. The movie starts at a regular pace just like any other horror flick. But once the Leatherface comes on screen, there is no looking back. True, this movie won’t be a classic like the original one, but it comes in a new package and it was nice to see a version of my favorite classic on big screen.

Though the movie was entertaining and lived upto what I was expecting, it was unnerving to know that it was based on a true story. In fact, I even felt guilty. But then, I searched a lot and came to know that the connection was so loose that it almost is not there. The only thing common between Ed Gein, the Wisconsin killer, the movie is supposed to be based on, and Leatherface is that they both kept collectibles made of human remains. In fact, Ed Gein was nowhere close to the insane slasher of the movie. He was tried for two murders and until his dying day, he never admitted to killing anyone other than two unfortunate elderly women, always maintaining that rest of his collectibles were from exhumed bodies.

Whatever the inspiration behind the movie is, I loved the movie and would reccomend the movie to any genuine horror movie fan. Some people think watching blood and gore on screen is sick, but we know better, don’t we. One mor thing, watch the movie alone and you won’t forget it for quite some time.
