We had been to Tex Woods as my travel agent suggested last weekend. It took around 276KM from Bangalore (Bangalore --> Kunigal --> Hassan --> Belur --> Chickmaglur --> Mallandar --> Muthodi Forest Checkpost). First of all, if you have a vehicle (unless SUV/TT) it has to be left in some place in the jungle (some place they have hired, looks safe- no worries). from there, they will take you to a 4KM bumpy ride to the venue. The resort has nothing much to do other than a swimming pool. The Bhadra wild life santuary is closed now and there is no access. If you want to go anywhere else, you need to come all the way to Chikamaglur.
Here are the quick reference. Hospitality - Good (not very impressive)
Food - OK types. The dinner will have the same items done in the afternoon
View - Amazing view Rooms- Just okay. The toilets has some cigarette, matches etc. No soaps were provided. The rooms had the broken windows (Still okay, as security is not a major threat :-)). The bed sheets were smelling bad because of getting stocked inside the cupboard for a long time. The cupboards could not be closed.
Access to other point - ZERO. THIS IS THE MAJOR DISADVANTAGE OF THIS PLACE. YOU CANT GO ANYWHERE UNLESS YOU NEED TO GET DOWN 4KM AND GO TO CHIKAMAGLUR AND THEN TO ANY OTHER PLACES. WILDLIFE IS CLOSED NOW.
For Children - This is not children friendly place. There is nothing for children to do. (SWIMMING POOL is available, but you dont have to come to do swimming all the way here). Food for children - The food is not accustomed for children. They need to adjust for the taste it is made. Verdict - unlesss you want to stay in a silent place doing nothing, go there. If you are planning to base here and want to see other places, my friend, you are choosing a very much a wrong destination.
