We went on a holiday to Thailand in March 2008 with our 10 month old baby. We had requested for a basinnet seat because of our baby, which was promptly refused by the reservations clerk because she said that the basinnet can only accommodate babies below 6 months. (Singapore airlines, had no such qualms and provided us the basinnet promptly on our onward journey).
Anyway, the airline first of all is quite old and and funny enough the older staff on the flight were actually rude. The younger staff still were helpful. I have known of airlines being rude to people on the flights to the gulf due to the labor class traveling in them, but the rudeness and anti-Indian uneasiness that I felt about was a bit of a shock, considering that most of the folks traveling to Thailand were decent folks going on family vacations. This rudeness raw example is very prominent at the visa-on-arrival counter.
The guy treats you like common criminals and has has a sign that says PAY CASH NOW. I politely asked him if there was a possibility to get a double entry visa as we were going to stay in bangkok for a night on our return from Singapore to catch a flight, but he didnt bother to answer, just said pay 1000 baht now. What a looser.
Overall Thailand was a let down and not really worth the all the hype. Sure, it is more advanced than India in many ways, but the people are only helpful if you a white and any colored race is seen with contempt as if they are doing us a favor by allowing us to see their country.
Ive experienced various cultures and have seen a lot of different countries, but was extremely unimpressed with Thailand and found it a total hype and waste of money. Id recommend Maldives/Andamans/ Sri Lanka if you are looking for a beach get away and Malaysia for shopping.
