Just surfing the site aimlessly, I came across this section where I read a very amusing review by Pandu about India’s most popular website : Indiatimes.com wherin he’d mentioned the website as a porn site(??!!) and equally amusing were the comments that followed thereafter by all and sundry.
Very amusing indeed!
Then I came across this funny sounding website : THANEWEB.COM !
You know, at first I was a bit amused to read the name thaneweb.com because for a Delhiite like me, at first glance Thane sounds like thana or police station or lockup!
I mean I know that Thane is a town (?) in Maharashtra and the first train in India in 1853 ended (or started) at Thane. But still.
What was more amusing was that nobody had bothered to write any review about it till date! So with great amusement, I logged on to the site, hoping to be more amused with what I was going to see! (The ’’amusement’’ hence and in the last couple of lines is purely sarcastic!)
It downloaded fast! Amusing...oops...sorry....surprising.
The first thing which struck me was the color. Maybe because of Holi.
Anyway, slowly and slowly , I started to review the site. What followed did not amuse me. It surprised me! The website is a bloody treasure! (Have I gone too far?)
I mean, it has national news updated very frequently.
It has Thane Telephone directory, Thane Business directory, City Happenings, Entertainment, Education, Thane Digital, even a map of thane! Thane this, thane that....
Maharashtrians, c’mon guys, surely u must have seen this site?
Did u know that Thane has touch screen kiosks all over the city? Gawd...we don’t even have them in Delhi!
U know, on a mellower note, I think why I am so animated is that I have never visited Thane and it is not considered to be an important place, so all that information about this tiny city has probably amazed me to no end!
So, i’ll cool down a bit and make my plans to visit Thane (not the ones in Delhi!).
I’ll repeat once again...the website has loads of information. Visit it!
