TKM College of Engineering

This small review is about TKM College of Engineering.

As a very ordinary student coming from an average family, it was my aim to get into TKM College, for engineering education, through a state merit, in 1998. During that time the state had very less engineering colleges and TKM was among the best shot that the State of Kerala had. I got admission in Mech engg 1998 ~ 2002 batch.

The College has a very good reputation and knowledgable faculty, with several Phd holders.

The college has a semi functional placement cell that needs to be ignited by students.

Sports facilities are nominal and has an excellent library. Its true that the building is old as it is a 50 year old College.

TKM has made very highly professional entrepreneurs, Manager, Technocrats and Bureaucrats over its entire years of operation, 1957 ~ now.

The college has good Labs, for production, mechanical engineering and other subjects.

Students of Kerala are still in the imaginary world that a Company would come to his doorstep and offer him/her a job. Thats old story.

The fact is that the students at TKM does not have an understanding of how a career is being framed. This is a critical fact that even the college does not highlight.

The students runs around for a job or think of their career, only by the end of the fourth year, which is not correct and unlike other foreign institutions, where the students train them and put themselves on the fast track for placement.

I request the Students to be the torch bearers: -

Some guidelines as to how students in overseas institutions works

1) Make oneself conceptually very strong

2) Attend seminars and all lectures possible

3) Torture Professors and lecturers during lectures, so that they never come unprepared.

4) Have an idea in your mind as to which way to mould your career, like automotive, aerospace, research, etc

3) Prepare your thesis well if going for an MS or a Phd.

4) Prepare your project well if going for a job. The project should reflect your career interest.

5) Contact with Industry and understand their needs and future requirements so that you can shape yourself.

6) Invite them to the Institution. Try continuously

7) Keep in touch with Alumini - a must

To be very frank, I am proud to be a TKM Alumini.
