Hmmmm..
We had a pleasant but hectic trip to Tanjai as the the bus people call Thanjavur.
Firstly how to go there.
From Chennai Theres one & Only train : The Rockfort Express.
You can also go to Trichy and come here, its a 1 hr ride on any thing with an engine.
Buses are innumerable, but check out the quality of the bus before u buy the ticket.
What to see.
In thanjavur see the Periakoil, thats what the locals call the Brihadeeswara Temple.
Its old, BIG and very Homely. You will want to spend more of your time in its environs.
In tanjai there are some small parks & grounds, good number of hotels for everyones budget so your stay can be comfy.
What I liked about the place is It looks like town, feels like a city and the People help you as if it is a village.
There are innumerable temples around tanjai in small hamlets, big villages and tiny towns.
If you are the religious type..You are going to love the place.
Some places:Thirukadayur, Thirukarigavur, Kumbakonam..trichy, srirangam etc..
Food.
You will get all kinds of food her.Muglai, chineese, Chettinaad.Andhra everything.
Advice.
Make a lazy trip..dont be in a hurry.you will miss the tiny details if you do that.
carry drinking Water with you. take a taxi if possible in ur budget.
Finally.
Pray at all the temples.
