Tintin in the Land of the Soviets is the first in the series of 24 books that Herge gave as a gift to the world of comics. In this 1929 adventure we find Tintin who is a famous reporter of ’’Le Petit Vingtieme’’ comes to the land of Soviets to investigate the evil doings of the soviets. Here he is pursued by Bolshevik Agents who try to stop him from exposing the new Soviet regime.
Herge has used too much satire and portrayed them as ’’corn stealing murderous scum’’ There are also events where Tintin is tortured by Chinese Agents working for the Soviet Government, including being dragged behind cars, blown up by Explosives, chased by a tiger and tortured in the Chinese manner.
Anti-Soviet feelings and racism is clearly visible in the book, the reason why it was banned for such a long time and the only reason for it to appear in bookstores 75 years after it was first published as a comic strip in a local newspaper.
The Sketches are a little bit weird if you are a regular reader of TINTIN comics. But full credits should be given to Herge for creating a character like TINTIN and then modifying the sketches as the publications became regular
