Ired of his arrogance and asocial behaviour, the village head penalises him to take anger management sessions, but to no avail. When a bunch of pigs treacherously invade the bird island in the garb of extending friendship, Red sees through their mean intentions. It also gives him an opportunity to save his island from the conniving pigs and make amends with his community.
As mentioned earlier, if Jack Nicholson ofAs Good As It Gets were a bird, it would be Red. He snaps at anything that moves and believes that indulging in small talk is awaste of his time. You instantly fall in love with this flawed, yet sensitive character as you tend to identify with his rebellious streak.
However, barring Red and his shenanigans, the rest is uninspiring and cliched. Though the film begins wonderfully, things go downhill soon after owing to its ordinary plot. The pig track is unimaginative and predictable and they are nominions either. In times when Hollywood has been churning out animated gems, this one pales in comparison. Its decent but doesnt stay with you or touch your heart. The colour palette looks garish too.
Just when the animation movies are no longer restricted to kids, this film based on a popular mobile app game may not appeal to all age groups. The birds are cute, but an unambitious storytelling sans twists and turns, makes this bird-watching unexciting if not tedious. The screenplay lacks depth and so does the conflict between characters.
