Let me fly high

There is nothing like success. The feeling itself is overwhelming. Success actually transforms you. It changes the meaning of your life and at times it maybe killing and yet success is worth living. There are people who live and die for success. Nothing else matters to them.

It is difficult and almost impossible to measure success. The definition of success is different for different people. And its not just the definition it is also about the depths and heights of success that I am talking about. For some there are just no limits. Aviator is one such movie which tracks the life of Howard Hughes(Leonardo Di Caprio). For him life is about living big and perfection in every sphere and action is but a norm. We all aspire to live this life, but watch this movie to know what actually big means to Howard. In everything that Howard does, he looks for perfection. From the simple act of washing hands, eating a meal to choosing air planes. Nothing but perfection satisfies him. He just can’t have enough. For this reason he keeps pushing himself and those who work for him. Watch this movie and get a glimpse of what the obsession of success can do to you.

The Aviator

This is a pretty long movie at 170 minutes. It goes on and on, but only seldom do the viewers get a feeling of monotony. As a young boy Howard dreams of growing up to become the richest man in the world. In the opening scene he makes this confession, “When I grow up I will fly planes, make movies and be the riches man in the world.” At the age of 25 Howard takes control of his father’s drilling business and starts making a film on a war epic. Howard spends a lot of money on his film. In order to implement what he wanted he keeps pushing his entire team, hires experts at exorbitant salaries, and holds the crew waiting for eight months in order to shoot a scene with clouds in the background. Everyone laughs at him but Howard really does not care. The reason being , he knew what he wanted. This was just a sample of what Howard actually was. He was a big-time flirt, wild freak, record breaking aviator, independent filmmaker, survivor of several serious air accidents, and obsessive-compulsive paranoiac. Howard’s character was actually made too large. I guess portions of it can be seen in most successful men. But his character was actually too large.

There are other characters in the movie. But I guess the movie hardly revolves around them. The drama is about Howard Hughes. There is nothing interesting in it and yet everything about it is interesting. I particularly liked Caprio’s wonderful acting. He is suffering with obsessive compulsive disorder and plays the part really well. Actually it is the disorder that takes him down. And then Howard fights back and makes a comeback.

Watch this movie if you have time and really hungry for making it big. May be somewhere, in a miniscule way it will inspire you.
