Village People Rule The Disco Scene

Evaluation Okay, go ahead and laugh. Enough people have made fun of the Village People over the last 25 years. But this was truly one of the unique concepts in the history of pop music. Combine that with some really snappy writing and you have a winning combination. This album is really the only one you have to buy of theirs. It has all the hits. The hi-lights:

1) Y.M.C.A. - How many dances have you gone to where they played this? You’d have to go to Antarctica to find someone who hasn’t heard this catchy little tune. A Village People staple and bound to go down in history as classic disco.

2) In The Navy - What a hook! My personal favorite though it didn’t get the airplay of their other songs. Still this is living proof that good writing can make up for a lot of sins. Silly, stupid and a joy to listen to.

3) Macho Man - Has been spoofed in so many TV shows I can’t even count them all. This was their first hit and some say their best. Like the other 2 it is pure disco pop, infectious and as catchy as the day is long.

Bottom Line The rest of the songs are okay but the above 3 are the standouts. Now I’m not suggesting that this stuff is great music, but if you just want to listen to something that will make you dance, smile and feel good in a world where all too often we feel like hell then this is one album you have to get.
