My expectations of this movie were too high. When I saw this literary work by C.S. Lewis come alive on the big screen with Walt Disney influence I was expecting to see much more spectacular visuals and special effects. My knowledge of C. S. Lewis book The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is limited because Ive never read the book. However, I enjoyed viewing this movie and I expect to see its sequel. This movie does have a good story line, very good pacing, special effects, costumes, good entertainment, and fairly good acting from the cast.
I was taken back with laughter as I watched the introduction of two friendly taking beavers portrayed as a husband and wife along with some pretty scary looking wolfs, the witches henchman. I found the appearance of Aslan the Lion to be quite noticeable, and enjoyable.
The Chronicles of Narnia; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is written and directed by Andrew Adamson, Ann Peacock, and released in December of 2005. The running time for this movie is 2:00.
The movie opens when four children are sent to live with their Aunt and a professor (Jim Broadbent) after a war torn England. When the children arrive they find themselves drawn to a mysterious closet and wardrobe. Lucy (Georgia Henley) the youngest sibling goes through the wardrobe reaching the land of Narnia when she goes back home, and tells her siblings of the magical place of Narnia, and a witch; they dont believe her until Edmund, her youngest brother travels through the wardrobe with her. While on this trip to Narnia he meets the Witch who beguiles him with candy, and hot chocolate. She convinces him to reveal information that will help her take Narnia, a mystical and magical place. When Lucy and her siblings decide to play in the house, they brake a window, which causes the professor and their Aunt to come upstairs where they are. The children become frantic, and run through the wardrobe landing in Narnia. On their journey through Narnia they meet two talking beavers, portrayed as a husband and wife. The beavers take the children to their home, and tell them of the prophecy for Narnia, their fate and reason for coming to Narnia, the identity of King Aslan, the army King Aslan has prepared for them to fight the Witch, and save Narnia.
The beavers take the children to King Aslan, and the king tell them their fate for Narnia and makes the ultimate sacrifice to save Edmund from death; the witch had planned to kill him. Will Narnia be saved from the Witch? What happens to the children who were chosen to save Narnia? Youll find out when you purchase this delightful childrens movie.
Final Thoughts
Ive pretty much expressed my thoughts about this movie. Its a very good and entertaining childrens movie. You will find the animation, and special effects to be enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the appearance of the talking beavers that delightfully portrayed themselves as a husband and wife that showed funny characteristics of an elderly married couple. The animated appearance of the Lion is projected in a most powerful manner and well done. As for the cinematography its ambience of winter is beautifully presented. The tapestry is also well done. The costuming is also well executed I found the appearances of unicorns, and centaurs appealing and most suited for a story like The Chronicles of Narnia; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Acting by the cast scores fairly well. Overall The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a well done and entertaining childrens movie.
