Hello guys,
Its me again Bluesky, its about time to I wrote about my holidays in bangalore, mainly my clubbing experience/ tales .
I do apologise for this review being too lengthy but I really felt like telling what I saw and experinced, hope this helps for the clubbers in bangalore.
Well, things have changed definitely over the last year clubbing wise and yes, the same hip/hop culture seems to have grown on the bangalore clubbers. Infact I noticed that, black culture / hip hop culture has its strong foot hold on bangalore pubs/ clubs. Fine, I landed on the 20th of Nov, went down to a couple of pubs asking whether I could get a chance to play ( to be honest I couldnt wait to get my hands on the decks ), but I was declined almost everywhere .( I can understand this as the resident DJs didnt want anyone to come near their share !! ) .Finally, that afternoon, I went down to a pub called Bunkers off Residency Road ( I know some of you guys may say that it sucks ), but well , that was the first place where I could get a chance to play ( the thing that really quite surprised me was that sound quality was not bad and also it had two turntables as well, which is what I play on ) . First day, played out some decent tunes, like Mood II swing - Cant get Away , Despandi Vandi - Gia and finally to test the music knowledge of the crowd to see what they like / dislike I played out my trump tune / floor filler , David Guetta - Just a Little more Love ( Wally Lopex Mix ) and guess what the reaction was….Nothing at all, people just sat there drinking beer .Anyways, the manager of the pub, asked me to play there anytime except fri and sat eve :- )…why ??..because fri eve was hip /hop, RnB and sat was the regular dance night, but the resident DJ would play…I said, fair enough. To keep the review short , the bottom line was I played there on weekdays, sometime in the afternoon and sometimes in the eve from 7 - 9.30 pm.( does somebody reading recognise me ?? ).
Okay, now its time to tell things about some happening clubs like Spinn, Club X etc. Firstly, let me tell you about Spinn.
Spinn, everybody rated it very high, so I thought let me go and check it out..Went there on a Wednesday night and I was not allowed ( its obvious because I was single, that’s the why how things work in India !! ) . Then somedays later, I got introduded to the resident DJ at Spinn, Clitus and I got in. To be honest, nothings so special about Spinn, There is a long bar counter and the colour lighting in the lounge is ok and the dance floor hhmmm, personally I think it’s a bit small as on weekends crowd just pours in and hence there is not much space to dance ( well, guys who just love music and need some space to dance, go upstairs, where we get enough space to dance , but the negative point is , upstairs we dont get the same speaker effect as we get downstairs…wot a pity…
Overall, Spinn is ok not bad at all, seems like DJ Ivan plays here, but for the clubbers who love non - commercial dance music, Im sure you guys will be let down here as there play say hmmm 60% commerical stuff I would say…for e g tunes like Deepest Blue etc.
The only reason why this club is going strong is the DJ ( Ivan ), yes, the crowd is not bad I mean a bit classy and the door policy is way too strict!! and last but not the least, because of the location, right in the centre of town, so people dont have to go way too far out of city limits to party.
Now onto Club X, I, m a bit sentimental about this club, mainly because of two reasons….one is that , it is open till 6 in the morning and I like to party hard and late , not bad for any place in India and secondly about the DJ ( I think his name is Vachan ) , I noticed that this guy plays some good funky house tunes, though personally Im not into funky house ( Im more into Progressive / tribal house ).The music system at this place lacks quality unlike at Spinn where it is much better. To tell you the A-Z about the kind of music being played at this club, from 11 pm - 1am , its funky house, 1 - 3.30 am its hip hop and from 3.30 am - 5.30 , 6am is where the fun is , music is a bit harder. The thing to be noticed is the dance floor is packed between 1 - 4am and then I dont know why it begins to die down slowly, is it because of the music or people cant last long enough, I dont know!!. The back lounge is not too bad either for those romantic couples who like to just sit there and chill out through the night. Beware, the drink prices are ridiculous here !!. DJ Tania Pear was here to play for a castle lager loud party guess wot happened, she started playing around 1 am and just half an hour down the line, she had to change her set completely as there were not many people on the dance floor, by now everyone reading this should have guessed why this happened, and the reason is she was playing house music!!.
I played here once along with the resident DJ Vachan on a sat night (.. if somebody recognises me , then I played Tiesto - Traffic )
Now on to the next club , Zero G - this is situated on the 9th floor in a complex on residency road. Not a bad place to have a drink or two and also now they come up with a disc there called Insanity, it’s a small dance floor, but the acoustics has been designed so that the music effect is very good. I went there on the night again when Tania Pear was playing for the castle lager loud party, so to be perfectly honest, I dont know the kind of music being played there on normal weekends. In the end, not a nad place to visit once. The bad thing about this disc is that the DJ console is so high, that the bonding between the crowd and the DJ is in no way possible. These guys should redo the console so that it is in line with the crowd on the dance floor. I hope you know wot I meant to say.
Last but not the least Speedzone, I know I know it’s not a club, but wot a place it could be if it was made a club, though it is an open air venue, it could be ideal and fantastic for the dance festivals to be hosted at bangalore. Well, this time it was Tom Stephan A.K.A Superchumbo who was playing and I was really looking forward to see him play. The thing I noticed was everybody was saying well, the music he played was not good…can you believe that, may be everybody has their own taste of music, but for dance music lovers this was an ideal oppurtunity to experience proper clubbing feeling. I was all over the dance floor when he played his own tune This beat is , and Kelis - Milkshake ( X press 2 mix ) fantastic tune, if only more people would listen to dance music and know more about it, well, I think it will take a lots and lots of time.
Happy clubbing folks…remember, pace your drinks and stay out late!!
