Growing Young

The film is adapted on the shortstory of the same name by F Scott Fitzerald written in 1921. The film alsotraces the life of the protagonist as he grows younger by the day and thepeople around him grow older and eventually dies in the lap of his wife as alittle child. The film is full of touching emotions brilliantly portrayed byCate Blanchett and Brad Pitt effectively in this order able supported by therest of the brilliant cast. Director David Fincher and writer Eric Roth(adaptation from the original story) and the make up artiste are also eventualwinners after the principal cast. InNew Orleans, in1918, Benjamin(Brad Pitt) is born prematurely old. His mother expires and hisfather abandons the freakish infant at a nursing home. Queenie(Taraji P.Henson), an attendant, raises the boy as her own, while the center’s residentsaccept his condition as an odd illness. The boy trapped in the body of the oldman finds out that he is growing younger by the day both mentally andphysically. His journeys throughout the globe as well as his relationship withhis wife are the fulcrum of this story. Also the story narrated by Diasy(CateBlanchett) to their daughter played by Julia Ormond while in her deathbed isanother well crafted track in this plotline.

Thecinematography in the early part of the film is being shown with colors thatare reminiscent with the early 20th century and as the storyline ventureswith colors of our times hence you grow with the film. At the end this 2 hrs 35min film keeps you hooked but makes you a little bit drained as you tend to getinvolved with the characters and their journey.

Themost impressive scenes in the film are:

  • WhenBenjamin’s father sees him for the first time after he was born.

  • WhenBenjamin(a dashing Brad Pitt) comes back as an impulse to meet his wife(amore matured Cate Blanchett) and meets Daisy’s new family.

  • Whentheir daughter learns about his real father while reading the story of Benjaminto her mom in the deathbed

  • Theclimax scene when Benjamin Dies.
