Oh My Goddess

World renowned novelist, wrote this novel intending for it to be fiction. However, despite what people would like to say, the story seems legitimate in the fact that the biblical and historical references incorporated into the novel are strikingly congruent to what has actually occurred in real life.

The novel is set is France and England. Symbologist Robert Langdon is called to duty when he hears of a brutal murder. Icons rumored to be Satanic are sprawled out at the crime scene and seemingly claim that Langdon is the murderer. Not much more can be said about what unfolds prior to this examination without giving the story’s ending away.

Labeled as a thriller, the novel seems to be slightly predictable and straightforward; in other words, the author tends to leave nothing to the imagination. Also, I found myself knowing the answers to the puzzles the characters are trying to solve, nearly twenty pages before they actually figure it out.

Despite the lack of suspense exuded in this novel, it is an eloquent analysis of Ancient symbol, withe Brown’s naturally explicit, religious scholarship; and the way Brown incorporates his knowledge of foreign language, biblical allegory, and religious iconology seems to be his strongest point.

Altogether, the novel is well plotted. It is interesting how Brown includes his knowledge on the ancient legend is superb and makes reading The Da Vinci Code intellectually gratifying. However, as stated in my other review, Still Not a Believer, about Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons, I am still not impressed by his work. In my opinion, his style should be transferred to the genre of religious fiction instead of thriller, because reading Dan Brown is everything but thrilling and/or suspenseful. Hopefully, the movie is better.
