Hello all..
At times people forget.. Publicity doesnt have a face..Be it good or Negative .. publicity is publicity...The Vatican, Christan secular groups etc. , all of those who did not want people to go and watch da vinci code , actually were the key instruments of popularity of this, otherwise an average film !
When I try to review a film, I dont like to give away the story line , as I feel if u know the story , half the fun is diluted .eventhough in this case a lot of people must have read the book,
A brief overview of the plot :
A murder inside the Louvre and clues in Da Vinci paintings lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand years -- which could shake the foundations of Christianity
tom hanks to start with has pulled down and really lookin good.
no doubs on his acting skills did a fine job carrying it
Audery tatou... a real sweet innocent lookin babe.. I guess playing hanks sidekick did not have enough juice in her role to perform...
jugren prochnow.. was the most dead looking alive character.. beware this one will really make the softhearted folks go ufff... while watching the film
captian fache played by jean reno was quite electrifying.. I kind of liked him the most in the film
sir ean mckillen who is playing teabing in the film was also suitably casted .. but my personal favourite ...
if charted in a pros and cons way , I think these should be in the ’pros’ of the film
the book- so popular , that one should definately go and see how they interpreted it in the cinema form..
The Locations ..i flipped some of the most popular and magnificient monuments and historical places are seen in this film.. people with no passport or enthusiasm to go and chek these places out can deifnately get a virtual tour thru the film
The cinematogrphy.. very very good.. outstanding I must say... love the color grading of the film and also I really liked the way they handled the historic scenes...
The suspense... I must say people who have not read the book will definately find the story intresting. and also the screenplay assures the same experiance
The cast..very well casted film, the characters played by every actor seems to be very much in place so wont feel the way I did when I saw suniel shetty playing a captain of indian army...!!(whoa...he looks like a wrestler !)
The music .. I really liked the background score by hans zimmer... the gladiator , the last samurai, thin red line fame ...
the cons ..
not many I must say
Lack of chase... eventhough if u read most of the dan brown books they have an edge of the seat chase ...seems like to educate the audience as there were many facts and theories which the audioence ought to be explained , it brought down the flow of the film
the highpoints of the film missed the graph at times.. maybe the screenplay or edit flaw I guess..
and especially for indian audience , the fact that u will see somany jump cuts that u might get irritated...
i think the censor heavily scissored the film!
a final note on the religious front.. All the hue and cry about the holy grail..really doesnt come thru as a threat., ..! I think the christan groups overreacted ..! the film is a POV of a writer...thats it
infact there is a beautiful scene in the film where hanks asks tatou.. Where does your faith reside , in the fact that jesus was an extraordinary man or really the son of god and even if he was a father why couldnt he be the son of god ??
i feel people who believe in the power of religon will always believe in it .. faith is a foundation which is difficult to break ...
insecurity only shows a doubt .....
