I got me and my cous tickets to "The Departed" after it recommended by my pals. One look at the cast and the director and I knew its gonna be good. The movie never disappointed and was an excellent thriller.
The cast:
The cast has to be one of the biggest pluses for the movie. Great cast, great performance. Names like Di Caprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg do not disappoint. Kudos to Di Caprio on a stunning performance. I hope he gets the eluded award this time and I am sure he will be nominated. Often there is a tendency to waste some talent when there is a long crew but thats not the case here. None of the characters disappoint and I gotta give the credit to Martin Scorsene.
The plot:
Great story is not good enough. All the good directors agree on that. Screenplay is the key to success. The screenplay and the story go hand in hand and as a result we have a winner here. The screenplay is almost flawless and keeps you occupied always. Its one of the movies where you will feel bored in the break. The pace at which the movie moves is amazing. The basic story is this:
Costello(Jack Nicholson) is the bad guy. He has rats planted in the State Intelligence and in the FBI. Sullivan(Matt Damon) is one of them. The cops are desperate to nab him. So they plant Costigan(Di Caprio) in his gang. The cops know that they have a mole inside and at the same time Costello know that he has a rat in his gang. How they find it and who gets exposed first is the movie. On top of that Costigan becomes the most trusted person to Costello and Sullivan to the cops. Pretty exciting stuff as you can see!!
Martin Scorsese:
It can be easily said that the director has worked his heart out for this one. After watching this one it can be safely said that Martin Scorsese is one of greatest directors in the world. He does an unbelievable job. One proof for that is not one of them I asked guessed whats next in the story and which way the movie is heading. Thats excellent. He has taken direction to a new level. Some of the camera angles and shots in the movie are awesome. I have no more words of praise to this guy. I have become a great fan of him. He really has got the midas touch!
To sum it up all I can say is, this one is a terrific thriller with loads of dynamite packed in it. Great movie, great cast, great screenplay. This ones is one of the rare movies which moves at the same pace from start to end. Only concern is the abusive language and the violence but this is not a romantic movie and we are talking of mafias here. This is a A rated movie and hopefully the kids keep out of it.
Cheers!
