Suspenseful and thrilling

In ’The Devil’s Advocate’, Keanu Reeves stars as Kevin Lomax, a young attorney from Florida who is undefeated in court cases. He, along with his wife, Mary Anne (Charlize Theron), live a decent life, but want a better one. They finally get their chance when Kevin gets a job offer that he just can’t refuse, by who other than the devil himself, Satan (Al Pacino). Kevin becomes so overcome by the wealth and power that his wife doesn’t even recognize him anymore. Just as things are getting good, it takes a turn for the worst.

’Devil’s Advocate’ was a very entertaining film. It shows you how peoples’ lives can be effected by power and money so fast. I enjoyed the storytelling very much. A young southern attorney getting a chance of a ’lifetime’. There are down falls along the way as he climbs to the top of his game. There were some very good acting by the whole cast. Al Pacino playing the devil and Keanu’s father was fun to watch. They fit so well as father and son. You’d almost think they were related in some way, maybe not father and son though. The effects were great, with people turning into demons. There wasn’t any slow parts like in most films. There were some powerful moments. When mary Anne goes to kill herself and Kevin freaks out, screaming was one of my favorite scenes. Keanu put a lot of energy and talent in that scene.

I enjoyed Al Pacino a lot, even though this was not his best work. He played the devil so well. His attitude and voice brought the character to life. He also brought some good humor to the role.

Keanu does a fantastic job as Kevin Lomax, but the only thing I disliked was his accent. It was a little off at times. He did a heck of a job with the role though. This has got to be one of his best performances yet. It was great to see him and Al work together since he passed up the chance to work with not only Al, but Robert DeNiro in the 1995 action flick ’Heat’. He passed the chance so he could perform Hamlet on stage in Canada. I would have taken the movie role instead, but he’s a BIG fan of Shakespeare.

Charlize Theron was great as Mary Anne. Her and Keanu fit really well together. She brought beauty and talent into the film. She will be around for a while.

Overall, ’The Devil’s Advocate’ was a great horror film. I found it entertaining. Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino, and Charlize Theron did a fantastic job. Very good storytelling as well. There were some very good dramatic scenes, along with some funny moments, especially from Al. The only thing that bothered me was Keanu’s accent. He was amazing acting wise though. I think some critics went too far putting this movie down. They see Keanu, the Bill & Ted guy, and think ’Oh, he’s the Ted guy, don’t pay attention to his acting. He’s wooden.’ It’s just sad that they’ll never take him seriously. Good good Keanu. Just a great film to check out if you’re fans of the actors and like horror, suspense thrillers.
