OKAY OKAY!! I’m going to watch Shirin and Farhad tonite and will post a review ASAP, but please bear with me, oh no!! not the grizzly, oh no, its not the drinking beer, see the spelling, its B.E.A.R. Bear as bear with me, okay!!
I watched a movie named ‘The Dictator’ few days back, and here I am presenting you a review on it. Well, what could I say about it. Have you seen ALI G, BORAT, or BRUNO, if you’ve and you liked them, then this is the movie for you, once again presenting Sacha Noam Baron Cohen, the british stand-up comedian + writer + actor + voice-actor + producer in the role of General Shabazz Aladeen, the ruler of North African Republic of Wadiya. Mind it! He’s a dictator, and who didn’t liked anything which is western, he is racial, he is out-of-mind, he is a full-of-s**ual fantasies, and always surrounding by female bodyguards. It’s my honour to represent him before you all. Now, his story is very simple, he’s a simple minded dictator, who don’t have mind, never hesitate in executing anybody even on simplest of mistake, has no respect for life, and even changes many wadiyan English words to ‘ALADEEN’. Take an example – A doctor saying a patient – YOU ARE HIV ALADEEN!!! (POSITIVE and NEGATIVE words from English has been changed to ALADEEN), now how will patient react?? He has an advisor, his uncle Tamir (Ben Kingsley), who wants to declare the Wadiya as a democratic country, so as to open oil fields of Wadiya to other countries, so he will benefit from it. So, he plans to treacherously remove General Aladeen (who is against this) when they went to UN HQ for a speech, and replaces him with his body-double Efawadh, who is actually mental. But Aladeen survive the attack, but in the meantime he lost his beard, which is necessary for identification, and he met girl of his life Zoey (Anna Faris). Aladeen takes help of his earlier-executed (which was not executed!) ‘Nuclear Research’ head Nadal (Jason Mantzoukas) to take back his position of the ruler of Wadiya, and later on he married Zoey.
Now, you see what you want to see but it is not always what you see. What I have to see is what you have to see or you cannot see anything, see! It’s as simple as that!!
The Dictator is a satirical – bit se(I CANNOT PUT A SINGLE STAR HERE SINCE THEN REMAINING WORDS WILL SHOW IN ITALIC! IDIOT MS)ual comic take on Iraq’s leader, and it is full of comic and many satirical foolish scenes, which you like in a different way. If you seen Borat, or Bruno or ‘You don’t mess with the Zohan’, you’ll understand what kind of comedy movie it is. Sacha has done well in his earlier comic movies, and is very much likeable in the role of Ali G and Borat. If you search youtube, you’ll find so many of Borat’s interviews and adventures. That is the biggest magic of him that he make the character such a gem that you started thinking it as a real one. He usually plays off-mind asian-african characters which includes tight funny mad dialogues and same kind of pronunciation, and which make the characters lively. This movie was released in May 2012, and yet to be released in India, but I watched it on Ipaid Ipod. The movie didn’t take much of your times, only 1 hr 20 min long, and is directed by Larry Charles, and is the same person who directed Borat and Bruno too. The movie has one scene (you can think of that) but it didn’t last long, just 5 seconds, and many reference or dialogues related with s**ual things, so it’s better to watch it alone, in case you’re an adult. Story is nice (written by Sacha, Alec, David and Jeff), but the movie is not about the story, it’s about foolish jokes and satire. Everybody acted well, Ben Kingsley did nice job in his small and tight-lipped role, while Anna looked good in her role of activist. Do you know Anna!, Do you remember Cindy from Scary Movie.. Jason as nuclear scientist Nadal was also good, but the star was Sacha obviously, as the movie centers on his character. But wait! This movie is not for all, many may not like this movie, that’s why I have written above (I know everybody here reads just the starting and the ending lines of a review!), Go up! And read that! Many scenes are hilarious, like the one when Aladeen organize an Olympic of his own, where only he will win, and he shoots every other player participating, see the last one! What is the last scene of the movie, when Zoey is pregnant, Aladeeen ask her, “Are you having a boy or an abortion!!”
What will you do, if you do not have brain, you’ll watch the Dictator!
I will give 3/5 to this movie for its comic presentation and foolishness. Rest you decide. May you all rest in peace!! Rest in Peace means get a good sleep!! Always Thinking ALADEEN!!
