ET - A winner by default

I read the reviews on ET and was a bit surprised by the overwhelming support the newspaper has among the reviewers.

I would like to add a bit of perspective to the reviews. Yes ET is Asia’s largest Business daily. Yes, ET is 7 times the second largest competitor in the business daily segment in India. And yes it is from the reputed BCCL (TOI group).

It is very affordably priced. At Rs. 2 on weekdays, it is cheaper than many general newspapers.

But if one looks at content, it is definitely not the best business paper buy. It is not a hardcore business paper. The editorial team has let this become more of a general newspaper with business bias. In which other newspaper would you find a picture of Dravid on the cover page, after India’s win in Australia?

The content: both focus and quality is lacking. I find both Business Standard(BS) and Business Line(BL) better in terms of coverage, range of news covered, commentary and reliability and relevance of news.

I read all three ET, BS and BL. Unfortunately I have not read Financial Express, so am unable to comment on it.

And for b-school aspirants, I would encourage them to read BS or BL for the preparation for GDs and Interviews for business schools. I am a post-graduate from one of the top b-schools and would definitely recommend BS and BL over ET. But of course it will pinch more in the pocket.
